I didn’t hear too much negativity. It’s inevitably becoming a different race on a bigger scale. It’s losing some of the little things that made ii unique, but i can’t fault the organisation. The arc angels were fantastic!
I do wish i had done the race before UTMB had taken over.
But it’s still the coastal path in winter, that ain’t changing!
Good to hear. I think the days of the Flying Angels are over but the extra small aid stations would help for sure. Mud Crew used to have a two year waiting list to be an Angel, will be interesting to see going forward.
No, greeted over the line by Jay Grady. They had him & Stephen Cousins anouncing at the Finish. He was glad he had his mic switched off when he spoke to me!!
So it’s a backyard format, starting on the hour? 10 laps is very short for one of these but if you aren’t used to the distance, I would suggest:
Slow it down by 5 mins per lap, which will feel like walking at first. If you do the first laps too quickly, you may fall off the cliff later, or, having too much time to rest might make it even harder to get going again.
15 mins would be a nice sweet spot IMO.
Yes, that is impressive. They would have had the worst rain just in the final climb and the flatter/river bits. I guess the trail was not so smashed up but even so, an amazing time.
I have no idea how ‘Rhino Boy’ made it around. I reckon I climbed over 6-8 felled trees and one where you had to get on your hands and knees to get under. He must have had to de-robe that suit. He finished in something like 7.35.
Those DNF stats in the film look off because Sunday night, I counted 38 for the marathon but that didn’t include those that dropped to the 15. The 15 itself had 14 DNFs.
I know two of the DNFs in the 15. A friend twisted her knee at about 6.5 miles and her husband stayed with her until they got picked up by a family member.
As for the Rhino! That’s nuts. I may have a look at the website that was linked and see what he’s up to.
