Trail & Ultra Running Thread

It’s tricky as I think that would undermine the whole ethos of the event, I.E. Getting back and starting the next lap within the 12 hours, everyone would be on their own schedule and I think that would lose something.

Not seeing many names mentioned as to who is taking part this year

Wondering if that is also deliberate?

I was listening to a podcast the other day, can’t remember which one and the guest said they could reveal they were going to BM. I ‘think’ it was Max King but memory is hazy.

I get kind of interested in BM when it’s on but I rarely get invested in it, not like I would for say Western States or Hardrock.

Yep that’s right; last year Jasmine Paris wouldn’t answer any questions on this.

The first rule of Barkleys is …

Only 6 runners left

And still loop 2……

Less will start loop 3 than finished last year. That definitely pissed him off….

The only names I have heard are John Kelly and a Japanese fellow - nickname Toni

Apparently a bloke from Exeter and a bloke from Wales made it around the first loop

Only JK and Tomo have finished loop 2 and have now started loop 3

Sounds like 4 onto loop 3,

Was reading earlier that the first two DnF’s had covered I think 5 and 7 miles at less than 1mph on the first lap. Given these are presumably top end ultra runners the difficulty of this is just beyond comprehension.

Think Laz will get his zero finishers, possibly none even starting lap 5. And I think weather has been ok, and could have been worse as they went for an earlier race this year.

Yeah, wasn’t sure if some were nav problems though and going round in circles looking for the book?

There was a comment about a couple barely being a couple of hundred metres apart but didn’t see each other!

And then there were three with Gauduin out.

Did a recce of part of day 1 of Dragons Back, was going ok until I lost the trail and had GPS glitches (position jumping by 200m, maybe canyon effect)
With the time of day and it being a hard scramble meant I turned around and didn’t do the Glyder section. Didn’t want to be up there in the dark. Maybe will try that bit tomorrow.

Ran back to Capel Curig hoping to get a bus or taxi to Betws Coed where I’m staying. Couldn’t get a taxi anytime soon and it was a long wait for the bus so ran a further 8km back

Great day that @doug :muscle:.

I once heard a stat - from Gary House I think - saying the amount of people that dropped out of the DB race after the first day & although I can’t remember the figure I do remember being gobsmacked.

He said it was great business for those running the DB.

Cracking day for it!

Last year they introduced the Hatchling shorter course which you can switch to at any time, so you still get a medal for completing that. I think it was because so many dropped out and just went home. This way more stay on

Doug, do you know about the Trail and Error podcast? It’s only Jay Grady now but used to be Tris Stevenson as well. Loads of older stuff on the DB as they did it last year (I think). Jay dropped to Hatchling early on.

He’s doing it again this year.
