Looks like they are through CP2
Through Cookham, on their way to Hurley. Keep going champs.
Although my mind set felt great . Unfortunately I was down to a walk quite early on due to my hip flexor being in pain. Made the decision to drop at Henley. The right one the way it’s throbbing this morning. I think if we had got to Henley earlier I probably would have been tempted to carry on walking to see how I got on. @tunster had feet issues but I am sure he will be on here soon to tell his side .
Overall I’m happy it was physical rather than a mental issue that stopped me.
Sorry to hear that @p00key , sounds like you did the right thing. I hope you start to heal up soon.
I think the friendship that you and Tunster have is pretty special. You are so supportive of each other and both know when things aren’t great.
Sorry to hear that @p00key, always better to stop in these situations and put health first.
Was dot watching and was so happy to see you and tunster together all day.
A couple of silly decisions led to DNF - wrong shoes and wrong socks - given I have been doing this for so long it’s pretty infuriating
I could feel a blister developing from 20 miles and just got worse. I was starting to compensate putting more pressure on my left leg.
Absolutely the right decision to drop - very cold by the river and carrying on would have just ended up with a right foot which would have been a disaster.
Great company throughout from @p00key which I really enjoyed. Amazing lift back to my hotel from @p00key ‘s wife - temperature in the car cranked up to 28 all the way - and sausage rolls thrown in as well
Last night I was questioning my life choices doing these silly events especially as I get older. 3 vet 70’s toeing the line yesterday though so maybe still some time to go.
I am about to go and ram raid the breakfast buffet at the hotel
Sorry to hear that mate but you made the right call. Don’t beat yourself up too much about the shoes and socks but don’t use them for SDW100 okay?
Sorry to hear that @p00key and @tunster but sounds like you both made the best choice.
Recover strong and get ready for the next race
Thanks Doug - I need to retire now and become a full time athlete. I am sure it was as hard, when we did it all those years ago , but then again I was younger and fitter so my hazy memory seems to think it was easier … 3/5 finishes time to look at other races.
Definitely not using them fro SDW100
Went with road shoes as there is a lot on road/tarmac path but forgetting the gravelly nature of most of it (don’t ask me why on my 8th time doing this race). The spongy nature of the road shoes offered little protection
SDW is much more technical trail and not even tempted
Just been for a walk with Mrs T and the dogs - saw a couple of finishers about 100m from the finish line - I wanted to be one of them but know that it was still the right thing to drop at Henley. Legs feel great and could easily go for another run. Foot less so with a 5cmx2cm blister slowing me right down on the ball of mt right foot. I would post a photo but not going to for fear of a lifetime forum ban
Sorry to hear that pookey and tunster, sometimes it’s better to cut your losses, not make things worse and try another day.
That is is the problem with the road shoe/trail approach, yes they are lighter and on the smooth stuff and more comfortable but whenever I’ve tried it, I find I badly miss the rock plate and overall protection on the gravel and corrugations.
Entered 7 Valleys this morning end of September - one I can reccie and do my training on. And on the plus its WSER qualifier. Just want to find something August time now to enter. Off to park run shortly to see how slow I am …
I saw some films of that one last year @p00key, that’s Lakes isn’t it?
Yes so not too far for me to go for weekend running. They have added the 7 and 13 distances as qualifiers by the looks of it
My colleague did the 7 valleys last year. He thoroughly enjoyed it. He’s doing Lakeland 100 this year - maybe 13 next year
(Your all mad! )
I’ve done 7 Valleys twice. Great event, but tough!
Definitely worth getting some recces in!
ah brilliant thanks. I know the first 7 miles and the last 30 - but definitely need to get that off road and hill training in.
I hadn’t done any recces the 1st year and being from the flatlands, struggled with the terrain.
I’d recommend looking at the Rosthwaite to Grasmere route, i have always found that the toughest section.
Nice one will do. Probably the bit I don’t know too well.
