Such a long way ![]()
Much much admiration
Well done tunster, bonkers though ![]()
That’s insane running!
Echo the thoughts on @funkin ,absolute top bloke. It was so nice to see him at Goodwood 20 miler.
I should have got myself out there to support @tunster but it’s very hard emotionally, when it’s a race you should have been in. I think when my mate Craig pulled out as well, that was the final straw.
Am I right in thinking this is a first time finish for you at SDW Tunster?
Just catching up with all of this. Congratulations @tunster . 100 miles is some distance and I think that it might have been a tad hot yesterday? ![]()
It was my pleasure. I’m just trying to make it look like we’re not all weird internet freaks on here. Hopefully it worked.
You were looking remarkably fresh for 48 miles in. You even grumbled that the sandwich they gave you had the end slice crust on it!
3rd for me
It was really warm
Had to take 20 mins at half way to cool down a bit and gather myself
Mrs T said how nice it was for you to travel out and catch up
The TT collective approval rating just went up a notch
Awesome stuff, such a great race the SDW100. I was expecting to do it multiple times until I got shunted to NZ ![]()
Lookign at the times the standard has certainly improved since I finished it in 2017!
So - short report from SDW100
Drove down Friday with Mrs T and the dogs to Winchester. Met up with our friends at the hotel and went to registration so there would be less faff on Saturday morning.
Got up at 4am Saturday morning got prepped and at the start just after 5am for race start at 5.30.
Pre race my main concerns were that I wasn’t massively well trained and had an annoying knee niggle (self diagnosed patellar tendinitis). All seemed ok at the start and I was looking forward to the run - this was my 5th time doing this event and probably my favourite - a very lovely route with stunning countryside.
The time flew by fairly quickly to begin with - Butser Hill CP1 and then onto Queen Elizabeth Country Park where Mrs T was waiting to support.
Skipping on to mile 46 and the CP at Houghton everything good - keeping well within my limits and trying not to overheat as the day was really warm with plenty of humidity. On the descent into Houghton I met Derek who @p00key and I had met up with at the end of the race last year and shared a cab/train back to London. He was the guy behind me on the photos that @funkin took.
It was great to meet @funkin and Mrs T and after a quick cheese and marmite sandwich plus a quick change of socks I was off again.
Not long after this I told Derek to crack on as he was pushing for sub 24 and his pace was too hot for me. That wasn’t the last I saw of him however.
I managed to keep on top of my nutrition all day and I think that managed to keep me fresh and going for most of the day - still room for improvement on that front though.
Washington at 55miles - changes shoes (same make/model just 0.5 size larger), T shirt and grab some food. Cool down for 15 mins or so before heading out again.
Sunset was gorgeous
Made it out to Saddlescombe Farm at mile 66 before it got dark which I think is a good benchmark for me - 2/3 of the course done. My fried Ben had just finished at this point ![]()
10 miles to Housedean seemed to go on forever. Left there with a guy called Ross and made good work on the climb out. We worked well together until well after Southease (mile 82 or so) - he was pulling me up the hills and then I was pushing him on the downhills.
Stopping at Warwick services now so will have to continue in part 2……..
