Trail & Ultra Running Thread

It’s strange that for this race they’re saying it needs to be a form mandated by Italian law which suggests it dates back to 1982! The form on the website suggests the one below which I suspect on of the online companies might sign instead of a standard one of their own. I’m fairly sure I had a specific form for CCC but fairly sure I have deleted it and the emails as it was only for a limited period.

I did get my GP to sign for Alpe d’Huez a long time ago but they wouldn’t for CCC, couldn’t get past the receptionists!

This is the form they provide on the website FWIW. It is weird some of the rules in Europe, like the fact I can’t go swimming in a pool in Greece without a full ECG test and licence from a doctor, yet most of the country has a water border you can just jump in

Odd that for UTMB itself you can do an online form/course (and indeed Chianti Ultra) but you cannot for the one that you are looking at

Which race is it? Is it the one in Puglia?

I take that back Chianti needs the same kind of form - I don’t recall getting such a certificate - I will ask Mrs T if she can remember

Just fill it in yourself, make up the details, and stamp it with a potato stamp

This one. I did wonder about CCC bearing in mind it traverses both Italy and France that both need some kind of form.

I’m getting increasingly put off.

I was listening to the Feet First podcast yesterday with Ed Scott. He was doing one on his experience at WSER. He got in with one ticket! :scream:

Which one are you going for ? I noticed they have not released the qualifiers for WSER for 2027 yet…

There was a guy from the UK who the Wednesday before WS100 race was next on the waiting list - he flew out and by the time he landed he was in the race . So I think if you get on the waiting list you have to train for it :grimacing:

I have a feeling they told a story of a guy from Norway that was in a similar position, flew out there but didn’t get in. That would hurt!

This looks like a great event. One for you @sparky? maybe even the TT Smackdown 2026?

@tunster - as the person here who I think has done it the most times (though I am, of course, very open to the opinions of others too)… how would you feel about SDW100 as a first 100 miler?

We are on the SdW right now, post Parkrun.

Haven’t completed the 100 like @tunster but done a ton of races on the SDW.

Centurion look after you very well and there is nothing technical about most of the course. Sun and exposure can be a challenge.

TBH hard to imagine a better first 100 IMO

I would say it’s pretty much perfect as a first 100. Ticks all the boxes.

I am very tempted to go back next year…

Totally agree

Unless you want mountains then SDW100 is probably the best 100 mile race. Other options from Centurion (who are really good organisers) are Thames Path 100 - pretty much flat for the whole route which makes it a lot harder than you think (same muscles all the time), NDW - just not as good a route and Autumn 100 - nice that you get to your drop bags 3 times but weather can be horrid.

SDW has some cheeky steep hills along the route but is mostly nice and rolling. Some stunning countryside along the route.

Would thoroughly recommend doing the 50 earlier in the year if you are doing - great as part of training and you get to see the last 50 miles in the daylight which is a real advantage when you do the 100 (unless you are going sub 16 to finish in the daylight).

I would personally go for the earlier start time to get an extra hour of daylight before night comes.

If I don’t get into Western States (highly likely) then I will probably see you there. I think @p00key also considering throwing her hat into the ring.

Matterley Bowl on the top pic?

Yep, they are setting up Boomtown. This is part of the course that SDW100 doesn’t touch now but it’s just after crossing the main road at Cheesefoot Head. You would have done that when it started at Chilcomb I think?

Do the A100 and TP100 still have a 28hr cut off, as opposed to 30?

TP has 30 hrs now I think
