Forgot about them

Need to get the medical certificate which is my priority next week.

Actually looking forward to the south of Italy for a days.

That’s going to be a bit hot and sweaty?? I’ve mountain biked around Chiang Mai and Chang Rai - lovely part of Thailand.

Which race is it , in Italy?

Yep I suspect it will be similar to the race I did in Cambodia last January - have vague memories from Chiang Mai from a few years ago - It was full of british old men with their lady boys..

Yes - there is that. I know someone who moved there many years ago - he had been a client of our business. He was an overweight, gobshite of dubious character in the UK so well suited to the Chiang Mai life

My flights aren’t great and need to drive from Naples, otherwise I’d have had a couple more days in the area, but need to keep my holidays for now.

Yep admittedly I now look for races where its not too much hassle to get to the start.

Didn’t one of the races get slightly rerouted? Not sure if it was the weather or something on the course?

Which day are you racing?

a few races slightly rerouted due to a landslip between Chamonix and Les Houches - adds a couple of kms and they have added 15 mins to cut off time

TDS was rerouted slightly last night due to the danger of thunderstorms on one of the high points of the course - in total now 5kms longer at 150km and ā€œjustā€ 9000m of vert

Yep, the TDS which left Courmayeur last night has been rerouted. I’m not 100% sure, but I think it avoids an exposed bit a lot of folk will be on this afternoon because of storms forecast.

Outside says…

The section between La Gittaz (73K) and Beaufort now takes a less exposed route. It also means racers need to run an additional 5K to make it to the finish line.

I’ve lost track these days, there are so many races. I thought TDS started today! I assume PTL got underway Sunday?

I PTL started yesterday at 0800. TDS was at 2350 yesterday night (so just yesterday, but only just. I wonder why they start at 2350 )

14 years ago just now I was somewhere between Les Contamines and Col de Tricot.

I remember two things about Les Contamines…

  1. Coming up on the Aid Station I was moving so slowly that an old woman who was getting bread was walking faster than me up the hill!
  2. Getting to the aid station and asking where the toilets were because I needed to take a dump. the woman said ā€œdown those stairsā€ and when I saw where they were headed I had mixed emotions because (a) they were downstairs and descending sucked, and (b) they would be real toilets rather than portaloos that had been sat in the sun for days. The joy of (b) was quickly replaced with the horror of realising they were French hole-in-the-ground style loos; the noise my knees made as I squatted down made me wonder if I’d be there forever.

Crikey it was a hard couple of days out. I don’t know if I would have made it if it weren’t for meeting a British guy called Tom Boother who was rallying after having stomach issues and basically dragged me through the last five or six hours.
