I’m going to go out on a limb and say Jan’s leg will be faster than your brother’s.

Well she will be out for 8hours and Dave 6. However at 61k she will be running almost twice as far as he will

One of the nice traditions of this race is that each year they remember someone who lost their life trying to escape. This year it is this guy (I’ll let you translate) What they do is, where the person died, they set up a memorial wall. This year it is at 78k into the race. So all of the runners take a card and write a message to then post on the wall.

He died at 20 two months after I was born

That’s a lovely idea. The story of his death is very sad. He almost made it across, at least I’d like to think so.

Yep that’s it, so close and so sad. We had dinner last night with one of Jans sisters friends; a local. He had been caught trying to escape. He did however help others to successfully escape including modifying a car to hide escapees!!!

He is a surgeon so had a value. The East Germans sold him back to the West. For German Marks of course. Fascinating man

Hadn’t even realised there was a race called Eastern States.

It’s not running related, but a few years ago there was a BBC Radio series about tunnels under the wall. The stories were incredible.

Clearly Jim heard what I was doing this year and dropped down the distance for a smackdown

Petter blitzed CCC the year I did it!

My memories are starting to appear on onedrive, 3 years ago

Can’t decide whether to put in for OCC next year or not!

I have unfinished business there - unfortunately no utmb index so need a race . Have pulled out of 7 valleys as although my back is better , I am pretty unfit at the mo. I do have my eye on UTMB Thailand in December though 50km

Ooh nice  the Canyons gets me in the ballot, I think, and the one in Italy in November is another but don’t think it increases my chances?

That one should be fairly quick as there’s only 1000m of ascent and the last 14k or so looks pan flat along the coast but could get boring!

That assumes I sort the medical certificate

I do fancy the race in Chamonix but will be hard to fit in with Ironman Barca! Assuming I got lucky

I just cant decide how long to go out for since I am not working now - problem is I dont mind a week or so on my own but it gets a bit boring when my better half is not there

True but the benefits are ā€˜single person starfish, every corner of the bed’ :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Agreed, when I was in the states I did declare that double beds were made for one person

I think the GF enjoys the break when I’m away :joy: big bed to yourself is good, especially as our body temperature clashes :joy:
