Wow - that is impressive on that terrain

Just entered Comrades. Currently doing rehab after a knee procedure 4 weeks ago so this is going to be a stretch goal. Worst case I drink beer and eat braai whilst Jan runs :slightly_smiling_face:

Ā£210 including the fee. I bet my IM 70.3 entry tomorrow doesn’t cost that

They want £450 to enter Bolton

I entered the Chianti 20k yesterday, fancied the 50k but would rather not have another DN*

Nice. Can you enter before qualification? Jamie told me that a lot has changed. No mid-course cut offs now and separate start waves etc.

So as I understand it the wave starts are for the down run only. Starting in Durban this shouldn’t be a problem, So just the one traditional start. I think that the cut offs have been tweaked after the total mess up of a couple of years or so ago.

So in Jan’s case she did Chicago recently, so she’s already qualified. I am targeting Boston. Not that one; but the one in Lincolnshire. I think that you have up to a month’ish before the race to post a time.

Oh i see. Jamie is doing the hard sell on me right now. He’s going to Goodwood in Dec, I’m staying quiet. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

And back again for the 100th in 2027? I still dream of it but I’m not sure running and I are reasonable friends at the moment.

Yes the 100th will be something special. Hope you get therešŸ™

Mrs FP keeps asking me if I want to go, as I missed out on a ā€˜Big 60th’ race this year. Mentally, I nearly get there but it’s just not somewhere I want to spend my disposable income. (I’m pretty sure anyway).

Tokyo has much more cultural appeal to us, as an Asian family but it’s easier to get a GP appointment than it is to get into that bloody race.

Can you not just go to Tokyo and find a local, smaller trail race or something instead :person_shrugging:

Then the pressure isn’t on the race, especially if your injury/health gets in the way. But you still get that major family break/memory/whatever you want to call it.

It feels with your current injury history that pinning the ā€˜big trip’ so unilaterally onto a race just adds more pressure both mentally and physically.

*these are the sole views of Mr GB. They must only be used at the recipients discretion.

You are absolutely right on all counts. I’ve said the same about Chamonix, I’d love to go there again and do a low key 25km (if such a thing exists!).

It’s just a frustrating build of not having the 60th year I wanted (by a long way) and the realisation that these days, there just aren’t that many medical/surgical ā€˜re-set’ opportunities left and lord knows, I’ve been through enough of those.

It’s just FOMO and me venting here really.

I can highly recommend this spot for your game and relaxation fix afterwards. Or before. Easy drive from PMB

Oh that does look nice

We’ve done similar previously but more towards Eswatini. At the moment we would be flying in and out so will need to convince Jan to stay an extra couple of days.

We also did a safari after Comrades in 2016. We stayed here - it felt pretty special seeing animals where they should be. I highly recommend it . https://www.kunamesafarilodge.com/

You only need 2-3 nights. Great to get longer but not strictly necessary. Worth it when you’ve travelled that far.

I have my first race since March later tonight. I still haven’t decided on the distance, I’m entered for the 24km but may switch to the 13km, not sure yet. Last year I was 2.36 for the long course but anything will do tonight. :folded_hands:t2: :crossed_fingers:t2:
