This would have been the final metres to the finish line tomorrow :confused:

I’m thinking of going and jogging to the first checkpoint and getting the bailout bus as I mentioned elsewhere, that part of the route looks very nice.

I know it won’t help but I’ve mentally cleared my diary and got a physio appointment on Thursday and probably won’t be running much until January.

Thanks all. Typing this in bed still because I’ve felt less beaten up after some 50milers than I do now! :rofl:

Ended up with a 2:49:45 which is 13min slower than last year but considering I thought sub 3hr might be ‘best case’ before the race, I’m very happy with.

As I said, that was my first race since March and whilst I’ve done some hiking, I’ve done no real trail running and I think my longest distance was a couple of 10kms but mostly 9km road running with the club.

Overall, it went fine, I knew the course and it was a very mild night, at least to begin with, which all helped. I knew exactly where i was going to run and walk based on previous years, it was just at a slower pace.

My back sort of held up but my feet were very sore after about 18kms. Muscles in my legs today are ok but inner thigh on both sides incredibly tight and I have a lot what feels like ‘stomach strain’.

Felt great to be doing an event again though and for once, I relished getting that medal around my neck. I came 133/164 but did snag 2nd in my AG,out of 3 :rofl:

Good effort at your race.

Sounds very similar to what I had to go & see a physio about. If it persists give me a shout & I’ll try to explain the exercises I was given :+1:

I went to the start of the trail race today, we were there before the organisers had set up the start area and wandering around the town looking for it :roll_eyes:

Turns out 5 hours would have been very optimistic :joy: but maybe 5:45 on a good day.

I decided to go to the first aid station and lined up at the back and jogged from the start. There was a massive pinch point after 1K where you dropped straight down and back up the gorge, it was pretty greasy on the rocks and grassy bits and that K took 10 minutes with a lot of standing around. The Peg’s were struggling.

It was then reasonable for about 6K before another go down and up the gorge which was slow going and still busy. Including a long set of stairs where I thought I was heading to bogs in spoons :joy:

Running through the town was nice and started getting a lot more runnable.

I was struggling at this point and knew it was over so jogged to the aid station.

Some of the technical bits were almost on a par with Lakeland fells but not that much and half the climbing was in that first 15k

I got to the aid station and my chip didn’t register or at the start and someone was trying to scan me but I said it was all over anyway.

Got the minibus back with a couple of others and 1 from the next aid station.

While I was sat in it waiting for the driver a woman decided to have an open air toilet break about 15m in front of me :flushed_face: I looked away :joy:

I think it would have been a good race if anyone is thinking of going. The resort was decent but largely closed down for winter. I’d have taken the asics if I expected to finish as well.

So its Escape from Meriden weekend and yours truly is on support duty. This is the 10th year of the event and there is a different option, which Jan and her friend have chosen. Basically you have 48 hours to do the 100 miles as the crow flies. So the plan is to head to London. Day1 get to Dunstable which is about 68 miles/ 110k. The next day start at 4am and run through London; they will actually run down the Mall; and out the other side.

If they get to Swanley they will end up with about 120 miles or not far off 200K. The weather forecast is absolutely horrendous so its going to be interesting to see what actually happens

I’ll post a tracker perhaps tomorrow. It’s always an interesting one to look as people go in all directions. Her friends husband and mate are going in completely the opposite direction and plan to end up on Southport beach!!

It is a great event, this year I’m going to the start. Midnight Friday start at the cross. A sea of headtorches all heading off in different directions.

No she is not chained but in one previous race she has worn the convict suit. There have been lots of stories of ‘chained convicts’ being incepted by the police at 3am. It think that it usually takes a couple of mins of explanation and they are back on their way. The other issue with being chained is the going to the toilet question. I’m not sure what happens in such a situation :wink:

Anyway not a race for me but if you fancy it then definitely worth the trouble; I can recommend some routes :slightly_smiling_face:
