Nice work and to your work colleague .

I’m not 100% surprised TBH. Shane was on a podcast the other day and I had not realised that he has another company that contracts medical services to UTMB.

They have left it a bit close for the Northern Traverse thats in a couple of weeks - which won’t be going ahead , what a shame.

I was entered for Northern Traverse, my email mentioned nothing about refund, though I did take out the insurance, need to check the terms and conditions.

The insurance is only for me dropping out, not the event being cancelled.

Bugger!

Good point, I did. I’ll wait and see what the official word is on refunds first.

Looking at the statement, there seems zero chance of a refund (unless you mean insurance?). That statement about races possibly going to happen under a new structure seems like appeasement fantasy, more than anything else. :frowning:

How much was your race Doug?

Ā£800

Says on their website that Northern Traverse is sold out, and vast majority of the income would have been banked long ago. So a bit hard to fathom how they can get so close to race day before pulling the plug :frowning:

oh bloody hell!

As I recall it, they start payments for DB and CWU pretty early as well I think?

Someone has just mentioned this on the Hardmoors group asking if people want to turn up and do it regardless, especially as a lot will have booked time off work and hotels etc

No replies yet.

Just exchanging messages with my mate Craig about this. Turns out he has a mate that entered DB but deferred. That’s Ā£1800!

Mate of mine had entered early and opted to pay monthly for Dragons Back - in for £900

That’s a lot of money to lose.

This is their blog from last Nov, you get a sense of what’s coming.

This bit is interesting:

I’ve been told a 1,000 times that the Dragon’s Back Race is expensive by runners who have never taken part… but never by someone who has actually toed the line.

One of my old Monday night running mates Ben, said that when he did the race (I think before Covid) he just couldn’t see where the enormous cost was being spent. He said he’d never touch another of their races and whilst he finished, he said it most definitely wasn’t worth it.

Just his opinion of course.

The logistics of Dragonsback and Cape Wrath are crazy complicated, I could see where the money went.

I guess on paper it doesn’t look great. No aid stations at all on CWU and one on each stage of DB but you are supplying your own on course nutrition. Catering at each of the day of course.

It’s the sleeping in a wendy house with randoms and no showers that would do my head in! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Interesting article , but they must of known they were at risk? Did they open the 2026 entries to see if it was viable to run them ? I only ask as I am clueless on how races companies run their businesses . The likes of Centurion Running have been successful for a number of years.
