It’s the multiday races that are worst, although UTMB and a few are certainly making the most of their reputation.
ooh that’s a tough one Doug!
Yes I think the Costa Rica multi day one I did a few years ago was round about $2000
I watched a good documentary about the Wildhorse 200 a couple of years ago. Looks like an epic race!
Good luck and hope you recoup some of your NT money!
Same, I naively thought they’d be a few quid!
@tunster are you still doing the Tenerife Blue Trail? Not long now? (to go, I mean- the race itself is plenty long
)
Yep - flying out Tuesday - just in time for the weather to take a turn for the worse
Weather is forecasted to be lovely here from Tues onward ![]()
I saw some clips of the lead guys doing TransGrancanaria last weekend - the weather looked hideous
Apparently Lucy Goss was down to do the northern traverse, she obviously likes the challenge!
She was one of the favourites in the “ones to watch” put out 2 weeks ago.
reckon they’ve taken in ~£500k for 2026 before closing-up
I listened to James Ellson’s podcast yesterday on the subject. He sidestepped a few questions like ‘why did Ourea continue to take entries up until relatively late’?
Why the sudden pivot from ‘focussing on fewer races’ to shutting up shop altogether in the span of less than 3 mths?
JE asked everyone to consider the ‘humans’ behind Ourea, and whilst he’s an entrant himself to Notrhern Traverse, there was a lot of deflection.
This morning I listened to the Feet First podcast from a few weeks back, with Ferg, Jane, Shane and James. This was a bit farcical IMO. Ferg and in particular Jane, tip-toeing around questions re UTMB trail damage and saturation.
They were talking about race safety and Shane was saying how it’s a huge priority. Ferg wouldn’t be drawn on whether not having to qualify for Arc was ‘good or bad’ under UTMB. Of course he wouldn’t, they are his employer.
The hypocrisy could be laid on with a trowel when Ferg complained about races charging £60 for a trail half marathon. Arc 12 was £109 bloody quid.![]()
I’m really done with those two. You sold the race, you took paid roles for your new masters, just bloody own it instead of pretending there was a gun to your head.
Shane had some interesting comments about risk assessment obligations coming to smaller races later this year. That will have an impact by the sounds of it.
That’s the one for me. Nothing wrong with setting yourself up for retirement but cut the sentimental bullshit and just own it.
Just watched the Film My Run clip on YT. He’s not held back!
ooof, Assume the have an alternative bad weather course …if needed.
No that crap !!
