Trail & Ultra Running Thread

bravo - keep going!

Felt like I could probably maintain a half decent pace if I stuck to roads so lost the pack & planned a 4lap loop for today. Didn’t start too early, first two laps were in a nice groove. Bit of faff before the 3rd and set off far too quick which quickly turned to survival, fatigue & HR drift & temperature made the final one very steady indeed.
Pleased with the effort & time overall !

ultra territory from today onwards

Knock it out the park mate. :+1:

Set my alarm an hour earlier than expected… so got up & left on autopilot… probably for the best as it got a bit warm toward the end. felt decent and the 2-4min walk and run to 40mins was working well enough (sub 12/mile anyways). Had a stop at about 17 and a bit for water & snacks and felt good for a bit, got a bit ahead of myself so the last 5 or so were still a drag and hot… right calf pretty angry but still managing to move along.
A 177miles over the last 7 days… only 90 to go.

great work Ed

Tough day. Right calf upstaged by someone jabbing a knife in my left quad every step after about the first 90mins.
Had planned to meet another nutter for coffee at 15mile point, he was early so ran out to me & walked me in to what was actually 16miles for coffee/sausage roll stop.
Was frustrated but mostly doing mental maths for another 5hrs walking if necessary, not that walking was particularly comfortable anyway.
I attempted some make shift taping which maybe helped but took a few miles of walking before it had calmed down enough to jog on at all.
We parted ways about 22miles i think, needed another good long walk rest then managed some kind of hobble on and off and got my head down on the road back in for a half decent final few miles.
Actually you can see all that in the splits where it goes bang at about 23km and some kind of improvement around 32km.
Ice and rest (and leftover pizza) and see what tomorrow brings!

2 days to go - keep going Ed!

A bit tentative setting out this morning with a short walk just to wiggle things about a bit, sore but moving so long as no one wants me to bend that knee more than 90degrees (no stiles please!).
Happy with overall pace in the end which includes coffee & circa 1 mile walk at 29km, bit of a grind at the end but that’s to be expected !

One to go - amazing effort!

Boof… had a good start today and steady up to 21miles or so. Suddenly all the families and dogs disappeared and hid under trees whilst the temperature ramped up & I had to throttle back a bit (like I had a choice in the matter!)

Also downside of having a neighbour in local radio

Mate, that is an impressive run (pun intended). Whilst the heat gave you plenty to think about, it must have been glorious out there these past 2 weeks especially.

Have a break and a lot of beer now!

I don’t think I’ll be subscribing to CWR, but that was a good listen, even if you didn’t manage to slip in how “gruelling” it is :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Great running @ed_m , well done.
