Thanks all - just couldn’t get my legs to get me up those hills any quicker . Just sat in the bus of shame waiting to go back to Eastbourne. I genuinely enjoyed that - my head was definitely in the right place - just need to work on those legs . Amazing to see new course records though. Some people are just built differently

Have no shame whatsoever. I’m in awe of people like you, yes YOU for getting on the start line and doing what you did yesterday. Rest well x

Woke up early to watch the start of Comrades. In the introductions they mentioned Barry Holland (49 finishes so far - commentating from the studio this year) and he said ā€œI’ve not watched Comrades on television because I’ve been running it since before television came to South Africaā€ :flexed_biceps:

No shame in getting that far, some days it doesn’t happen but it’s still a great effort :+1:

I was suddenly awake at 430. So I’m already tuned in.

No shame at all @p00key , well done for giving it a red hot go. Did you stop for a while about a mile after Houghton Farm? The tracker had you as ā€˜not moving’ for some time.

I didn’t cheack anything after you retired but I reckon a few in Wave 2 behind you would have timed out at Washington as well.

Jamie done in 9:48:06. , he won’t be happy with at all. Probably paying for the hikes in Rwanda but I’m sure he had a great race anyway. :clap:t2:

C’mon @Sparky

Well done Pookey! Great effort!

Big respect for runners battling the cut-offs - as if ultras are not hard enough already!

As well as those running SDW and Comrades I’m also impressed with the staff/volunteers at the Comrades finish. When the winner came in it was clear on the broadcast that he’d pushed himself quite hard (:poop:) so as he lay on the ground they used water on his legs and towels to best clean him up. He was in quite a mess.

With 2km to go I thought I’d spotted blood running down his legs. And then realised what it was as he crossed the line. Really put it all in to get that. But yes, credit to the finish line team.

Thanks for the messages everyone. Tough day especially the second half. Lack of proper training really bit me.. But so happy to have completed it and now I have an UP medal. Will do a proper report on a couple of days

I heard from Jamie. He said his right quad went after 5km, then his laft calf completely tightened because he’d been compensating (he reckons it was the flight, I’m thinking maybe an 8hr/4hr hike in Rwanda on Mon/Tues may have more to do with it  )

He said he was cooked by 10km and if it had been a UK race, he simply would have walked off the course but he jogged it in. Think he’s ā€˜re-hydrating’ in Durban with the local running club that he’s in with. :beer_mug:
