Brilliant- well done @Sparky
Well done Sparky! Brilliant work!
Amazing run @sparky , you were very consistent, perfect pacing. ![]()
You simply can’t walk off the course if you are going for a back to back
. Well done Jamie
Well done @Sparky nice running .
I was listening to Radio 2 yesterday morning and they mentioned the start of the summer Spine Race on the news.
I thought it was a bit of a random thing to mention on the main news ![]()
Yeah it’s not that high profile. Especially compared to the winter one!
My mate has not long passed the 100 mile mark. Tired, but going OK. He’s 7 miles out from CP2 now - which is probably a couple of hours. He’s going to try for a few hours kip and then set off again just before it gets dark.
So another of our crew is wired a little bit different. Back in the spring he did the Devon Coast to Coast (117 miles including Dartmoor and Exmoor). Not content with that… He started in the north, ran to the start line in the south and then set off back up again!
Now he’s going one step further. He did SDW last weekend in sub 24. And in Thursday THIS WEEK he’s running the Jurassic Extinction there and back! Over 200 miles of tough coastal running.
He’s in his mid 50s. Drinks cider on the route. Mentalist!
In more ‘normal’ running my spine buddy has hit CP3 about 152 miles deep and in the top 10. ![]()
That’s really impressive - how old is he? doh just reread mid 50’s
I walked over with a lady to the start of SDW100 - really lovely chat - she mentioned she did it in 21 hours last year. Well she came 6th this year in 19 hours and is in the V50 category. I am inspired and impressed she’s also been a fitness instructor/ PT for the last 14 years.
That’s not the same guy that a few years ago, won NC110mile on the Saturday and caught the train to London Marathon the next day, is it? ![]()
No, that’s the vicar. He’s back again for the Jurassic this year. He finishes his 100s in sub 24 then goes straight back to his parish to do his services etc!
This guy isn’t fast. But he’s as tough as old boots. Proper local, local Devon character.
I love this from comrades…
The youngest female finisher was 20-year-old Bailey O’Leary (Great Britain), who was home in 10:42:51, while the oldest was a 74-year-old visitor from the USA, Auzanne Koonce, who crossed the line in 10:43:24, less than a minute behind the youngest female finisher.
Imagine being a 20 year old, crossing the line and seeing a 74 year old who’s been chasing you for the past 11 hours finish a matter of seconds behind you.
Tbf thats standard in Ultra’s in my experience ![]()
It’s the long steady hills where I get my backside handed to me.
I feel like I’m ‘marching it out’ and get passed by someone that looks like they’re strolling to the bingo! ![]()
My buddy has just left CP5. He’s got just over 40 miles to go and holding strong in 3rd overall. He took an hr out of 2nd between the last 2 timing points, but #2 seems to have set off from this last CP with a spring in his step. Still a lot can happen over the next 12-14 hours or so.
This guy is the one who I ran the whole NC110 with - we literally stayed together from start to finish. Can i vicariously claim a Summer Spine podium as a result?! ![]()
Yeah but you have to write ‘2nd’ in texta on the medal ![]()
