I think the difference now is Cape Wrath used to be multi day and now non stop… its a tough route . I know a few people who did the race and a couple of people who have done the FKT - I think Damian Hall and Beth Pascall did it for a FKT a few years ago - there is a short film of it somewhere.

Normally it’s over 8 days I think
Given it would be non stop in such a remote location (are there any pubs/shops along the route like the Spine) that’s a tough ask for sure

There are the occasional pub/shop, but they are few and far between, some of them seasonal or limited hours. You might go days between them.
Previously announced was the Cape to Glen which does it north to south as a non stop race, finishing in Glenfinnan https://www.capetoglen.com/

Average elevation for this race 11,000 feet - that would give those footy players something to talk about eh?

This is interesting - picked up off a FB post that passed my way from The Running Week
“François-Xavier Laffin has been Chamonix’s mayor for four months. He is already moving to shrink the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc.
In an interview with L’Équipe published July 16, Laffin said a large majority of Chamonix residents now despise the event. He did not soften the word. He said locals cannot go to work, cannot sleep with racers arriving at all hours of the night, and feel dispossessed of their own town during race week.
For this year’s edition, running from August 24 to 30, Laffin says it is too late to change the sporting side. Registration had already closed before he took office.
What he could change, he did. The UTMB brand village is confined this year to Place du Mont-Blanc, a single square, rather than spilling across town as it has in recent editions.
Before 2027 registration opens, he wants fewer races, spectator limits on sensitive sections, and less night running through nature reserves settled with organisers. He has also floated capping visitors so that one runner does not bring five family members into a valley of 9,000 residents.
UTMB has grown fast. Ten years ago, four races, 5,000 runners. Now eight races, 10,000 runners. More than 100,000 people arrive during the week.
Laffin does not want to end the event. He wants Chamoniards to love it again“

I think it was mentioned by awildt above, feels a bit like the Ironman Nice situation, it has grown and I get some of the point but when their income falls and people lose jobs they might not like that either!
Guess it’s not dissimilar to the people of Kona.

I almost feel bad for going this year now (but not in any of the races)
It won’t do any harm to rein it in a bit I think but as said before they need to be careful to strike a balance which might have swung too much in favour of UTMB in recent years

Politics thread is elsewhere but I suspect the mayor is focusing on an easy target to keep his voters happy and say he’s achieved something!
Anyway, that’s enough.
Quite a few BGR attempts atm and someone from a local club did 23:09 at weekend.
I’m also looking at bluetrail again but need to find out about Tokyo, this is like Groundhog Day

I have my free entry for Bluetrail (and Mrs T has entry to the shorter one) after last years shenanigans - will wait and see how the WS ballot goes before deciding whether to do it
Might be harder to get into Bluetrail for 2027 with all the deferrals so don’t leave it too long
