Did a double round today - 52k and 1800m vert
Weather was cool and mostly cloudy, but on the second round I had a novel experience I vaguely remember from ages ago, there were droplets of water falling from the sky! Quite refreshing.
well done Doug, good day out that!
Most excellent
I heard about this on James Ellson’s podcast. Looks interesting for sure.
Hmmm.
SDW50 I have done in 10 hrs with about 2000m of vert
Extra 5 hrs to do another 2400m of vert but suspect a lot less runnable
You know it makes sense ![]()
I wasn’t sure whether to post this here or in the Household Chores thread

Bizarre
Be careful using poles:
Do you have to pay for a mountain rescue helicopter evacuation in Montana? Perhaps as well as being tough as nails, he was financially motivated to avoid a $25k bill (assuming no insurance)? Purely speculation.
Yeah, I saw that story elsewhere and it was framed as him walking 10 miles to avoid having to pay for a helicopter
What is that outer loop of Walton Hill - Four stones like, as in clearly marked / not over grown?
One of those outer loops is 6.6km. I know half the loop, but not the Vine Lane Walton hill half around Highfield Coppice.
There are some footpath signs, some are a bit hidden, paths are obvious though and apart from a couple of very short stretches weren’t overgrown. Some of the stiles just after Walton Pool Lane were broken/missing but fences were easily climbable.
Entered Dartmoor in a Day 50km
Good work fp!
I’ve got 3 mates doing a self supported Dragon’s Back this week. Must say I’m rather jealous! They’ve just set off in their dya one.
He was unlucky to encounter a hiker from Poland, given that he was in Montana
Kudos to them, it is challenging enough doing it with support, do you know what they are doing for accommodation ?
Just planned the route to finish in towns with a hotel/B&B booked.
Cheers mate. Craig mentioned their efforts to me last night. He sent me the tracker link
