I don’t know what made me think of this but here goes.
If a FKT is a point to point ( or even a loop I guess), are there different records for different directions?

Partly, but I suspect they want to keep the local mayor and community happy as there’s been complaints about how many people turn every year.
Less athletes means less money but I suspect fees will increase.

Just reading a Reddit thread on this (I know 
) and thought this worth a paste. This last paragraph, we’ve seen this movie before!
Obviously they are not going to want to reduce numbers because their entire business model right now is based around on us trail runners, all around the globe competing in races and collecting stones, all just to get into the lottery for this race. If that becomes scarcer, and even harder to do, people aren’t going to see the point of it.
I know they are putting on more and more events globally and marketing them, but still the only point of stones is for Chamonix.
I’m not really sure what the answer is. Even if they decided to move the World Series Finals to another location, or rotate them, people are still going to want to run Chamonix/UTMB if it’s on.

Agreed that the only point of stones is to qualify for Chamonix but I’m not sure that getting stones is the sole reason for doing their races
I have done Chianti which was well put on in an area of the world I probably wouldn’t have otherwise gone to (OK it was a Western States qualifier - I know I know)
Yes there will be other races in these areas but for the most part no idea if they are well run or not - at least there is some consistency albeit I agree, at a price

They do put on a well organised event, some nice locations as well. I really enjoyed the Chianti race, except falling over 
would be tempted to go back one day.
Assuming I’m still eligible I’ll probably put in for OCC but won’t be disappointed if I don’t get in.

UTMB Thailand was way too crowded on the course and then got worse on a downhill section where two races went onto one route.
Saying that I will probably go in for OCC - although have already been looking at accomdation and the prices look ridiculous.

Actually good point, the 2 in Italy were a bit like that, but my own fault at Chianti for messing about and being towards the back, although I was trying to avoid starting too quickly. Similar at the other one, massive pinch point after 1K and even 2 wave starts was too much.
Canyons was alright though.

Get yourself down to NC110km in Nov. Overcrowding definitely not an issue.
