Trail & Ultra Running Thread

A couple of sections did have ropes, however, I was more focused on getting down than taking pictures :grinning:

It depends on what you mean by horrendous sections, the climbs were generally long, but not so steep, the descents were much steeper

Nice. Descending with confidence is where I struggle. I lose so much time!

What a way to pop your ultra cherry @Matthew_Spooner - great running

The descent on km 46 to 48 was the worst, long grassy descent, ground was really churned up by sheep and cattle my quads were really burning and my knees were aching. Give me a nice climb any day

Stunning route, well done .

Ok, significant birthday coming up in a couple of months and feel like doing something different, next year.

Can barely run 5kms at the moment and in a semi-permanent state of injury but I love running and miss it badly. So thinking of entering ONER next year. Is this quite a stupid thing to contemplate?

The oner that’s only 82 miles you mean

If you fancy that stretch of coast come do ā€˜our’ event (my close friend).

No it’s not stupid - i did my first 100miler on a total whim! If you wanted to recce the western end of the course you’d always have a willing guide here!

(if you are genuinely interested in these events, granted i’m totally biased, but DM me and i’ll send you the details).

That’s great GB. many thanks for the offer. I’ve seen a few 50 milers which would be quite nice to do in my 50th year. I quite like the idea of a coastal event.

There’s a 100km version of this one, starts at Weymouth and finishes in Exmouth. Also the North Decon/Somerset coast they put on last week in a howling storm. There’s a 110 mile, 110k option and that section is epic for different reasons.

I love the jurassic coast though. Again. i’m biased as i live here, but it really is beautiful.

Ahh man. Watching these videos is just getting me all pumped up for an adventure again now! This year has sucked! I need something epic to drive for!

IT’S A TRAP!

Of course it is! :joy: :joy: :fishing_pole_and_fish:

FTFY

I love the Jurassic coast as I used to live there. Now I have done an Ultra this is definitely in the plan.

You were Weymouth end weren’t you?

Yes, 3 years on Portland, and 3 years in Weymouth, where my parents still live.

I remember watching a long line of strange people wearing hydration vests and carrying poles, running slowly past our house on Portland many years ago… apparently they were doing something called an Ultra Marathon. I thought that they were mad

We are mad, it’s just that you’re one of us now.

Wow, someone from Ambleside AC has done the Bob Graham today in 13:44 :astonished:

That is absolutely bonkers, one of the fastest times, and not even the greatest conditions, e.g. not as dry and as much daylight as some.

That is rapid!

strewth!

Would have beaten Billy Blands previous course record but for Kilian
