But… old TTer sweary Tim Pigott (EJ) only went and won the bloody thing. Overall :scream::see_no_evil::scream:

Man, that is terrible luck, but it happens to us all at some point. You made the right decision.

Really sorry to hear that. Heal strong.

Thanks all. Time to reflect a bit, and fix this hip!

bad luck indeed - recover well

Kudos for hanging on to 55k - that must have hurt

Recover strong

Yeah that’s crap news FatPom. You’ve not had the luckiest run into these couple of ultras have you?!

Still, these things happen. And well done for roughing it out man. Heal up and hit the trails again in a few weeks.

Thanks GB. I’ve only ever had one DNF before and that was IM Wales in 2015. I really hate this feeling

Not sure what to do now. Work on my hip and try and chase those 4pts for UTMB this year. (there are only a couple of pretty hard ultras left open in Oct for that) or just get some more experience and get my final 4pts next year. That will mean I’m a year older for the literary though.

I’m not even sure I could make the CCC cut off now. Confidence is at an all time low.:-1:

Tough luck on the injury FP. Heal strong.

Just read that points for CCC have dropped to 6 (not sure when that happened?) so I only need to complete a 2 pt race by end of the year. Still need to work on my hip but looks like this one will be favourite.

That’s a pretty steady one as well FatPom … well relatively speaking. If you get good weather, it’s just a big dome, with a couple of proper climbs. Biggest difficulty is on wet years you’ll spend a lot of time with wet feet! haha

It’s a great little course though, and there’s a good chance i’ll be pacing on it.

Rest up strong though dude.

That’s some great info there mate, thanks. i think it said 900mtrs vert. It does look wet!

I won’t be looking to hammer it, just ‘get it done’ and take winter to properly focus on my body.

Would be great to meet you! :+1:

Very interesting. My two 2018 50 milers would be valid for 2020 application, but not 2021, and the CCC is on my bucket list, so I think I will apply and see what happens. I may also sign up to an IM and then defer if I get into CCC. I would then squeeze in some early season half irons, or a few 50 milers (although Centurion stuff gets sold out so quickly nowadays).

There are loads more events out there than just centurion though. All acorss the country you can find smaller companies putting excellent events on. If you’re training for CCC i’d argue that the typical flat/rolling Centurion courses wouldn’t be best suited. I’d be off to Wales, Lakes, Peaks or somewhere like that.

You are correct, but I am SE based and they are on my doorstep. If I get into CCC I would spend time in Wales which I adore, and back home in Scotland, for lots of long weekend running breaks.

That’s a more than fair point. Are there no coast path events down on that section of the coast? They must be pretty lumpy and easy to access? Don’t really know that area at all.

I did the Tuff 20 this year which was from Brighton and really hilly. Used to be the Jog Shop 20. Very low key event.

I can run on the North Downs every day of the week and I have a fantastic hill for repeats that is curved like a bowl, getting steeper near the top. It isn’t brutal doing it once, but I do a hill repeat session on it with 10 ups, catch breath, destroy the quads on the way down, catch breath, repeat. I call it The Saw. But what I would really need is more sustained and rockier climbs, so Scotland and Wales would be on the agenda, and that sounds really good to me as I love those places.

That’s pretty much my plan Hewligan. Get the points and then have a plan if I’m drawn out that revolves around the hard yards.

My ever so helpful XC mtb mate just sent me this:

CCC?

Yeah there really aren’t many place sin the UK where you can replicate the CCC type climbing. I’ve a mate who’s in this year who has taken some training inspiration from a top alpinist/photgrapher (Corey something) who does 2-4 sessions on the treadmill, with pack, max hill setting just plod, plod, plod.

Very different style of running as well. We had a guy win the 100km race on my friend’s Jurassic Coast event. He was non UK/european and spends a lot of time in the Alps. He said it was harder racing on the constant up and odwns of the JC compared to the long, steady, constant ascents of the Alps. All depends on what you are used to i guess!!!
