Trail & Ultra Running Thread

Are the mexicans the ones I saw on twitter running in cut up tyres?

apparently the Tarahumara folks

Americans finished - the chap pulled out leaving Courtney with the win at 284 miles

Belgians still at it - they have won as a team now to see who is last man standing

amazing efforts all round

Karel Sabbe :belgium: completes the 72nd loop in around ~42:00

Or at 6:17 min/km pace. [insane]

With that, he completes 300 miles.

Merijn in at around ~52:00

Flippin eck. that’s insane!

Forget the distance for a second how on earth are they still going without any sleep!!!

the Belgians attitude is to run faster to sleep more - cat naps little and often apparently

Bravo!
:belgium: Karel Sabbe wins the world :earth_africa: #BigDogUltra #Bigsbackyardultra

His tactic:
Run for 40-45 minutes, sleep 10-12 minutes every lap.

I think 75 laps is the official number.

Truly remarkable and very inspiring…

Really enjoyed this, some great shots. Made me want to do the BGR even more, though realising after moving away from the UK that it will probably never happen given I could only really recce it once a year or so.

I ran 37 miles the other night around NYC starting at midnight and finishing well after the sun had come up… not really the same as a BGR but after not running more than 15 miles in almost a year it bloody hurt

New challenge for anyone who wants something to focus on.

TL;DR; as many trig points as you can in 24 hours, starting and finishing at the same trig

interesting - I can see that this could really take off

Yeah i love a good trig based run.

We’ve got a few cool routes around here that we base off the trigs.

Entries have reopened today for UTMB’s Val D’ Aran July 2021 . Its not a ballot but you do need 8 points .

I’m in - might as well celebrate my 50th year in style … (or pain!)

ooh - liking the sound of that

maybe for 2022 - looking forward to hearing all about it

8pts in total or from two races? TBH, now I’ve qualified for CCC I’m less and less interested. The whole thing seems to be heading toward the IM type circus, especially with the ‘Stones’.

The more clips I watch, the more I realise there are some great races tucked away (not least in the UK).

Yep 8 points two races between 2018 and now. Yes agree about the stones. Admittedly never been interested in the big ‘UTMB’ but this one on a smaller scale feels much more appealing …

ah counts me out anyway, I have 8pts across 3 races.
