They’re predicting 327km at current pace
There’s a fair few people who couldn’t cycle that far in 24 hours
looks like he has stopped? 134km 10 hrs 24
not sure if it is a full stop or not
They are saying on ST that he threw up and went down.
event coverage says he has pulled out
You missed off the exclamation marks at the end of your sentence!
But yes!!!
Totally!!
I take it Yiannis ran barefoot then to avoid any “unfair methods”.
What an arse
Bare foot in a loin cloth. Or just Grecian sandals (even though those are a “new” development again). Heaven forbid the world should progress from the first ever marathon.
I understand Roger Bannister sent a harshly worded telex to Yifter the Shifter back in the day
Maybe I need to take Killian aside and give him some tips
Though joking aside, I think there is a massive difference between running mountains and running the track.
Since jiggering my achilles in 2013 I have always avoided hills as best I could. In Auckland that is tough, but there is at least one flat run. As a result I find I struggle a little on short hilly races (ie marathon downwards (I can say this on this thread right)), but for ultra’s most hills are walked and I can hold my own there.
But as it transpired, it seems that the hill avoidance set me up well to run around a flat track quite well!
I was also pondering, I wonder where 222k ranks around the globe this year as there cant have been many 24 hour races
I know at least @gingerbongo has an interest in the Paddy Buckley Round, anyway Russ Bentley is having a winter attempt starting tomorrow @4:00am
There’s a link to his tracker in his blog.
Weirdly I read his blog post last night. Turns out he was good friends with tgta Chris chap that lost his life up in Scotland recently.
He’s doing it solo, in winter and the ‘wrong’ way around. Apparently only 5 people have done it anti clockwise. None solo in winter.
Good luck to him. Looked him up and he’s a proper runner. Like international good.
He’s a good egg with a decent palmares. I’m not sure how far down his blog you read, but he could also be a decent journalist & did an explosive piece about Farah/Salazar this time last year.
Anyhoooooo, the sun will be coming up for him shortly & he’s had a great moon for the first part of his attempt with cold but still conditions.
Cool, I’ll take a look at that.
I only read his latest one, and I think I may have picked one up a few weeks ago when I first joined the PBR Facebook group, and he must have posted.
I’m enjoying the tracker.
No idea if he’s ahead or behind schedule, but the weather where I am - about 40-50 miles away as the crow flies - must be as good as it gets for a winter’s day of running.
Interesting how it doesn’t take in Yr Elen, but that peak is included in the Welsh 3Ks.
So just finished reading that, not insubstantial piece. Really interesting read, and put together very nicely. As with the whole saga, there are gaps that we may never be able to fill.
