Trail & Ultra Running Thread

Kilian Jornet starts his attempt at the 24hr running record in Norway in about 15 mins time. I think that has to run over 303km!! Will be interesting to see how a runner steeped in trail and mountain running is going to cope going round and round on a track

Not the best supported event ever staged, looks a bit chilly there, good luck to him, currently 5min kms

I think they were late starting as had to defrost the inside lanes of the track first.
There’s an ST thread on it too, the record is apparently 188 miles, avg 7:38min/miles (I couldn’t do one!)

He’s used to cold, he lives in Norway!

Yep long stading record by a Greek fella, Kouros (or somethign similar). He holds a whole bunch of insane records still from the 90s - 48 hrs, 1,000 mile stuff like that.

Just had a look for a minute. Geez, watch an hour attempt in the velodrome is bad enough!

Didn’t Yiannis Kouros do 4.44 pace for 24hrs or something stupid?

after 2 hrs he is averaging 4:03 pace

rather him than me

going to be dark soon I imagine in Norway - looks freezing as well

don’t forget after 4 hours though they will change direction

I suppose at least he has other people on the track with him.

I have just spent the last 20 mins watching!!! Strangely compelling!

It will interesting to check-in in say around 3am, hopefully its atmospheric (or just very cold)

Did you see Kouros bitching about this ?..
I can half see his point, this is a bit like the 2hr marathon thing… it’s not really a race ?
And also… apparently… shoes.

Not sure how it not being a race really makes any difference? A 400m track is a 400m track

All these type of races are held on 400m/400yrd tracks. Well they certainly have been for the last 150 or so years

Also, if he wanted to make it easier on himself he probably wouldn’t have picked Norway in November for a WR attempt

if it is not a race why is there another fella who is about 4 mins ahead of Kilian (he did his first marathon in 2:59 whereas Kilian was 3:03)?

if he is supposed to be pacing Kilian then someone ought to tell him

No its a race between the two of them (and the others on the track)

They are just changing direction. Very exciting

indeed and hence the comment from Kouros doesn’t stack up

5hrs47 and he’s done 79km.

Dark already, gonna be a long night for him!
