Thanks, but the requirements are a 50 mile minimum.

I’ve always found it strange that it’s 46, I’d have thought they could find a couple more miles on the out and back to make it up to 50.
It mentions a 92 mile option in the details but it looks like that might be out of date.

Have you tried here - Ultra Marathon Race Listings & Ultra Running Events 2017-2018

Throws up some options in the 50-100km category - Manchester to Liverpool 2 April, Kielder ultra 10th April , 5 Rivers Ultra in Harwich has a 51m option in May

There will be plenty of people in the same boat. Worth emailing info@centurionrunning.com to explore options? Suspect you will be able to validate with a DIY 50, submitting strava link / GPS trace etc Means you can stick to original training schedule

I’ve entered Malvern Hills… Fingers crossed can go ahead. Contacted the RD, unfortunately no longer qualifies for utmb points

I wasn’t aware of a time limit for the SDW100 qualifier? I did RttK (53 miles miles) in 13.49 and they were ok with that.

Yep, it’s pretty generous though at 15 hours or over 50 within the event’s cut off, so you’re clear on both counts.

I’ve not done an Ultra since 2015 (NDW50 12:59:15 on a 13 hour cut off and RTTS in about 21 hours with a slightly twisted ankle and a MASSIVE sense of humour failure)

Yeah, I’m going to drop them a note to see if they have any suggestions. But I’m also wondering if it’s for the best and maybe spend this year getting comfortable at 50 miles to 100k, then take another swing at it next year.
It was going to be a stretch anyway, so maybe for the best.

Having completed a centurion event will surely play in your favour? They just want to be confident you won’t be a liability out on the course. You might even be able to get away with showing evidence of a decent training block, back to back runs, time on feet, course recce etc. There won’t be much racing in these ā€œuncertain timesā€. Focus on getting in shape (and not getting injured) vs worrying about qualifying

I"m in for SDW100… And I have to keep reminding myself that a hundred miles is a long bloody way! A challenge not to be taken lightly. I’ve been set back a month with a calf injury, hoping to ease back in next week :crossed_fingers:t2:

I’m very much in the same boat mate. Got this quad injury and I can do small amounts of running but I’m hemorrhaging volume. I think I’m going to go for some ā€˜time on feet’ sessions and walk some vert on the weekends.

I’ve never ran 100km before (dnf’d RttS with injury), so it will be an interesting day!

If that doesn’t aggravate your injury i’d definitely be filling my week up with this type of effort. It’ll be just as useful as the running come the day. As you know, you’ll be doing a fair amount of walking anyway. Get hiking your hill!

An old clubmate of mine has a ā€œfavouriteā€ South London tower and he spends hours going up and down the stairs, probably running away from the drug dealers as well for that interval session

I’ve got a 40 mile ultra planned in about 40 days. Longest I’ve run before is a marathon. Training has stalled after I got ill, I’m feeling better now so going to see if I can get the miles in - am I being unrealistic? My basic plan is long run at the weekend, build from 20km this weekend and peak at 50km 3 weeks out. :see_no_evil:

A single long run at 50km? Build that up nicely and you’ll piss in a 40miler. :+1:

Yeah that’s the plan - 20km, 42km, 50km over the next 3 weekends!

Oh well. Got the poles - thank you @FatPom. Tried them at the weekend and loved them. Quads a lot less sore and not wimpering when walking around. Tuesday comes and RTTT is cancelled :frowning: I was being a bit optimistic, thinking this race might actually go ahead, but full restrictions not lifted until 21st June at the earliest and this race was at the beginning.

Gives me a whole year to get used to the trails and build on some strength.

And then there were 3…

Almost a TT day out

The Hardmoors 55 which was scheduled for about 1 week has been rearranged for 21st August, that weekend is currently free on my calendar but it’s more whether I can train for it or if it will take too much recovery (get injured) for races I’ve got in Sept & Oct.

Option to defer to March 2022 which is just before I’ll probably be going to America again, getting a bit of a backlog.

Other option is a credit note but not a great deal of use as I can’t use it against many races I’d actually do.

Although the races are actually transferable so I could sell it on in August if I’m not fit or don’t want to risk it.
