Training Peaks - Worth it?

I think @GRamsay mentioned the same, but it’s not the “numbers” I like…

…it’s the workout planning calendar. Which integrates with my head unit, watch and phone calendar. Oh, and Zwift custom workouts :+1:t3:

It beats an excel spreadsheet :raised_hands:t2:

So…does anyone have even a 30 day code?
Once my events and training is in there, I’m sorted :face_with_peeking_eye::joy:

Wahoo30

Garmin90

Suunto30

“Thank you for your Garmin Edge device purchase! You now have 90 days full access to TrainingPeaks Premium!”

NICE WORK!!!
Thanks

That is 13 weeks, so a great time to get enough training in as “base” before the real stuff begins

What are you doing this year; big plans?

200km gravel ride end of April.
325km Summer Solstice ride
600km home to coast to coast to home (3 days gravel, hotel at Ribblesdale on night 1, parents on night 2, home by night 3) - deffo not bikepacking  I can take enough for Day 2 with me, then I’ll send a parcel to my parents to pick stuff up, and ship my other stuff back home. Evri is only £3-£4 for up to 2kg in a shoebox.

Get up to 50 parkruns (just so I actually start jogging again!)
Complete a triathlon of any distance (so I do some swim training!)

That sounds like a great list! Which gravel ride, or is it DIY? I know the Border Riever is/was a big one.

@Jorgan - Yes, the Dirty Reiver as it’s now called. I thought it was near my brothers house…turns out it’s about 2 hours north of his!!! And he is two hours from mine - damn!! At least I can lie down in the Merc
I’ve put this in the “2023 Goals” thread :+1:

We all know you can’t get enough of that lake!

Just buy a small saddle bag. Even one of the cheap Planet X or Topeak ones. Bikepacking doesn’t have to mean sleeping in a hedge. Small saddle bag, change of base layer/socks, toothbrush and whatever wash stuff you need, shorts, t shirt, boxers, flip flops, waterproof jacket, some extra snacks, phone cable, power bank, bike spares and a cafe lock. Think thats about what I usually carry.

You mean a Rapha x Apidura Brevet one
Yours for just £150 for a BNWT on eBay (they were £115 new)

Your list is similar to what I was thinking, although the nutrition stuff is HEAVY, so I’d rather pick up spares to avoid carrying it!

Restrap. Good bags made in Yorkshire. Or Alpkit.

If you know your gonna like it…but first time out, the Topeak one is decent and what I started out with. Still have it.

Personally on the nutrition side. I’d just pavement picnic it or cafe stop (I know you hate these), your not carrying excess food then. Its far more pleasant on a 3 day ride than eating gels and energy bars. Carry some for emergency, energy levels running low, in between stops.

You’ve confused me slightly on ‘spares’ food or bike spares?

spares food :+1:t3:
My wife doesn’t drive, so I’m used to taking enough bike spares to get me home.

I’ll be using quick stops and “proper” (meal deal) food (white bread sandwich, 500ml coke, pork pies) , as it’ll just be me with nobody to fnark me off.

Then a proper evening meal and proper brekkie :+1:t3:

I’m not one for gels, really. But do like bars (Trek, Clif etc) and 4 x 320 Maurten has seen me through my 200km rides in the past.

If it ain’t broke…

Yep thats my usual approach too on the food front, unless its Wales and I know there is a high risk of zero shops. Don’t see any reason why you’d need to carry much food in that case. Stop at Co-op (Booths? :joy:), scran, get going again with an extra pork pie/chocolate bar stuffed in your top tube bag or jersey.

Gels and Clif bars for when your verging on bonking as you didn’t stop for lunch soon enough or the last 10km before that proper evening meal your looking forward to. This happens to me far too often :joy:

CoOp is my preferred, as I know what I want from the meal deal (prawn or ham&mustard, twin pack pork pie, 500ml coke. Then a twix, or the lesser spotted Boost™, and large bottle of cheap water - although churchyards are good for this. And free!)

And yes, gels are for emergency use!
The ShotBlox caffeine are for the last few hours.

What about a frame bag?
I think they look a bit cleaner than a saddle bag - thoughts? Other than they could impede 750ml bottle storage?

You can’t be over prepared when bike packing

2 activities today, and they haven’t synced from Garmin to Training Peaks. Same for anyone else?

Kinda working again. First activity has been added 3 times!

yeah it was being slow earlier. Just think it’s a server issue am sure will resolve soon. Mine uploaded eventually
