Training - What Training?!

Out of the tube, that sounds unlucky. I have had a valve extender snap on the thread inside the rim too when pumping it up, on my front wheel. 110psi gone in a flash. Thankfully I brought a spare 404 in case it was windy. The day again was ‘saved’!

Jesus…
I’m going dependable for IMUK.
I’ll be there at daft o clock, with zero spares…
25 mm gatorhardshells and sealant !
Slow but very very slim chance of a flat or other issues… he says…

Gorgeous here which normally means an outside ride but it’s my 7 th day on and I have jobs to do

Back garden easy turbo I think

100% athlete is a saying for people who complete 100% of their training plan.
If you plan for only 80-90% of what you think you can do, then you end up doing 100% and being able to give each session the consideration it deserves.
Completing each and every session gives you (well, me!) a psychological boost.

Power meter massively helps in reining in easy cycling rides.
My dog helps me keep shorter easy runs above 8m/m or 5m/km.

RACING: The plan was to race the 113 and go sub 4:30, beating Jorgan in the process.
Now I have achieved that, it’s time to relax for a few weeks, recover, then get back to some harder running to hit a half marathon in October.
Bigger plan is to go sub10 before 2022…

The man with a plan…!
Said I’d get a coach after IMUK…!
You got one ?
Sub ten at Bolton, now there’s a challenge?

Power meter may be on the horizon…!

Training hours for past 12 months, since January, training has been pretty consistent, with just one low week and one big spike. Compare that with last 6 months of 2018, big peaks in training, followed by lots of low weeks. Total hours was slighly less, but no consistency.

Still think 2020 is doable before it loses the appeal/excitement. 113 and 1/2M this year shows your potential, and still a long time left to build more this season, have physical and mental break, and then nail it.

Very nice consistency. If only that ever so slight trend March to June was going the other way, then it would be a truly beautiful piece of art.

Absolutely, big reorg at work, so earlier in year I was not so busy, however, my new job, which started in April is taking time out of training

Another fairly solid week for me last week, but a bit tired at the end, managed a decent Wattbike session, also got a 130k/4k long bike/brick session in, and a 20k run on Friday, the longest single run for about 12 weeks.

Had a 10K yesterday, no taper and unfortunately a crap nights sleep and stiff wind made it hard going but managed 39:43 so not the end of the world, got to 5k and then just lost about 10 seconds per K, but the nearest I’ve done to any speedwork is a few parkruns.

Easier week this week and need it really, got a fair bit of fatigue ATM.

Supposed to be doing a 3.8k swim in Ullswater on Sunday but I’m going to try and drop down to the mile as I simply can’t face that long in their, I reckon it will be about 14c if that, and I’d be a DNF.

Jeff

If it does, then it wasn’t meant to be.
Before 2022 includes 2020

Hero day for sure…
Not sure why my phone keeps trying to send this to poet…!?

Managed 3 runs so far this week, but tomorrow I pick up a new bike that I ordered 6 weeks ago, and I ride it home from work. Then at the weekend I am riding that bike for as long as my wife will let me!

I’ve had some issues on the mobile site.

For various reasons done the square root of sweet FA the last 2/3 weeks. Did an hour in the lake (13C & pouring rain) last night. Woken up very sniffy this morning. Hoping it’s just the usual post swim sniffs but son’s had a cold all week so suspect he might have got me with that.
Need to get my arse back in gear and some consistency so a cold is not part of the plan.

It was a huge brick session…
Like crazy long
By normal people’s standards
…

I guess I just enjoy weird stuff, being honest yours and poets positions on tt bikes freaked me out …

Very aero and pro, I took some pics, they have been deleted… the good news is there’s is 10000% some free speed there!

Finally have premium TP, but anyone else find this to be the case…

Putting too much faith into (blindly) following TP numbers, they will tell you that your TSB is positive, even though you are fried i.e. good taper high TSB>Race>positive TSB still, which masks how fatigued you are. My TSB is well over +0 at the moment, despite my legs being wrecked after the HIM on Sunday. You can’t just accumulate huge +TSB and ride the crest - they are just numbers on the Internet, listen to your body.

Not specifically linked to TO, but on the Elevate app i use it’s telling me i’m barely in the training zone for my accumulated fatigue/form etc just because i am not doing huge mileage at the moment. But i know i’m getting fitter and faster and working hard on interval sessions. The little graphs just aren’t taking that into consideration.

It also reckons i had a huge jump in fitness after doing that night time 70km a few weeks back. Again, just because it was long and hilly. Yes it helped me, but that one run didn’t just suddenly make me super fit!

Elevate only works correctly if your Athlete settings are all set properly. If you’re run threshold pace has changed then things like intervals won’t recognise properly. However I agree that it does seem to value volume over intensity.

I’ve seen quite a bit of discussion about this on twitter, etc. recently. I quite like all this a bit of an exercise physiology nerd. But the upshot being that a linear scale with effectively one input doesn’t give you an accurate picture of your fitness. Much more nuance is required taking into account life stress, sleep, etc. The model really was for cyclists cycling so how cumulative bike rides adds up will not be the same as swim, bike and run (or any other combo). It’s quite easy to get caught up chasing TSS but without regular testing how accurate are the numbers anyway?
