If I go the day after a long run I know I’m usually in for a painful experience but like to think it’s worth it.
Not sure if others will have a more scientific answer!

Think i’m going to struggle this week. Got the youngest with me all day today, which means i can’t train in my usual Mon lunchtime slot, as she was up spewing last night. So that’s great!
Also on site Tues and Thurs, which usually makes it quite hard to fit anything in, as i’m super tired come the evenings. Then we’re off to London on Sat at 0600. So will just have to squeeze what i can in.
You’d like to think so, but this year so far…

Looks like a decent night in
Pool for me today to keep working on a few things and try and stretch off some more after Sunday’s run (which has left a few bits and bobs sorer than they should be worryingly).
Straightforward pyramid set and then some kick drills. Went under 7:55 for my 400m for the first time at the ‘top’ of the pyramid which I wasn’t expecting and very happy with. Glacial pace of improvement but getting better, and remembering 18 months ago I couldn’t even swim 400m freestyle.
School strikes up here though so pool was mental and like a bath
Nothing again today.
Been working again with a sick kid around the house. She was up in the middle of the night again, so had to deal with that. Then spent 2hrs awake from 1-3. Knackered now, with 2 crappy nights in a row, and the thought of going out in the dark and cold is not appealing. So I’m gonna read my book and go to bed early again, hoping she doesn’t wake.
Repeated that session today - so much better - full hour at proposer pace - happy with that
Same for me again, late home and a long stressful day with the chance of another tomorrow so decided to sack off the gym after college.
Hope she’s alright soon as well
Pool was hot again this morning.
Wasn’t feeling it either.
6 x 500m P&P
2km of mixed intervals (100’s / 150s / 150s) P&P
Still 5km, but a struggle
Yup!
This’ll be my third day in a row.
Just going to “rest” and get rid of this damn cough first.
Back from the mountains and went for an easy chatty 7km trail run this morning. My 3 days in the mountains were intense. 7-8hr days, 3000m elevation, difficult terrain, little sleep but loads of fun, of the type 2 kind I’ll post some pictures in the gallery.
How were the conditions? I hope no-one had to use their avy bag in anger? I got the impression some areas received quite a bit of snow recently?
In some areas there was a lot of new snow and there were lots of avalanche warnings around us, but we chose routes that were mainly level 2. No one had to trigger their air bag. Although on our 1300m descent yesterday, there were some places where I did get a bit scared. But in these cases you just have to concentrate on your footing, rather than what could happen.
After a few days of a sickness bug…
6.5km lumpy run this morning.
29 minutes. 88m elevation.
Was chained to the laptop nearly all day but got out for a 4km walk earlier. Hamstring/quad is still tight but easing up a bit.
30 min pretty tough static bike, no watts on these ones but 158 bpm Av
2 mins rest.
T Mill 2.73 miles in 20 mins av hr 160, so a touch more to give maybe?!
Nice to beat APM as the first session of the new day but i haven"t actually been to sleep yet.
10 chilly miles before work.
Still not feeling it
Pool still a little warm today and I’m not the only one who’s complained.
According to one woman she was told there’s a law on pool temps that kids use sigh
With 10km already covered this week, I was a little tired, so decided on some 100s
Then a guy jumped in and started flying up and down which gave me some motivation, but he was a bit of a dick and blocking the end of the pool sigh sigh
Anyhoo
12 x 100m (and one 50m) off 1:45-2:00 depending on above said dick
10 x 50m off 1:00
900m drills (6/1/6 - one arm - catch up)
14 x 100m Pull and Paddles off 1:45
14.5km for the week
Haven’t run a step this week. Went for a walk on Wed. Hamstring still not quite right but now I have a weekend of DIY ahead.
