Training - What Training?!

First day back after a three week layoff with a low intensity 30 minute run. It felt like I’ve never run before!

Lots of hard work ahead I think.

Cardio rest day yesterday so about 1.5 hours of core and strength followed by a bit of the blessed roller (ouch) and stretch session with a yoga plough to finish.

Nice 6.8 slow run today in the sunshine, but boy was it cold with that strong Northerly. About 1350 feet ascent. One of my favourite runs as it goes past an old Scottish Bastle… I always imagine what life must have been like in the 18th century living in the middle of nowhere and then no doubt in the late 18th c followed by the Lowland Land Clearances (or Land Improvement as it was known).

30k gravel ride in the glorious sunshine. Half was on road of course. Got back just in time for a 2pm call sat in my cycling kit (camera off!). I had to get out today because there’s snow forecast from Monday. I mean I love Scotland but FFS man!

Another double day for me.

This morning gym.
Rowing, 20 minutes hard.
Then 2 sets each of donkey kicks, weighted bridges, sumo squats, calf raises and sit ups.

Will swim again tonight. 30-35 minutes.

I’m not wholly convinced you would be after a long winter. I think we’re all feeling ready for some summer sports now.

Cracking week on a solo camp in Lanza
Based myself in Sands Beach again, great facility and easy access to great rides and runs.

Did the threshold bike Thursday, so just hard running.

Speed repeats in the muddy park. 3x800m.

Nice to get the Kigers :muscle:on but good grief getting the speed up was impossible.

Fresh legs after yesterdays long swim, 800 cal max effort for the 23rd time in 4 years. ( last time I did this was 2019)

FAIL!

But only just ! Ironman Texas inspired me I guess, av hr 168. Next time! Getting fitter.

Whats the deal, burn 800 calories in an hour?
Is this a treadmill challenge?

I just managed the opposite, put away 800 calories in about 5 minutes - huge plate of pasta with chicken

It’s the trusty exercise bike that I’ve used for, well a long time to be honest.

Same bike
Same settings
Same everything basically.

Only variables are me and how hot it is, fans are for wimps!

Watts wise about 220 which is harder than it sounds indoors with no fan,more watts equals more calories I failed 700 this time last year when I had arms the size of my head so definitely fitter, I’ll do it next time!

Ive felt odd all week. Did a zwift and a couple of weights sessions and they felt fine. But just generally. When I have covid last year afterwards I had this annoying thing where it felt like there was a lot of like post nasal drip and I would cough but nothing produced. Thats back. Felt very tired and my lymphs nodes in my chin were swollen for a couple of days.

Guess im just run down. Stress and anxiety has been off the scale recently although things are calming down a lot now. Possibly just a bit fried.

Ironing brick, felt surpringly good.

1h45 on the trainer at 70.3 effort, then 50min run with 30mins at fantasy 70.3 pace 5:00/km.


HRM all over the place unfortunately. Seemed low on the bike, then went mentally high on the run. Took it off, disconnected it and it still piped out 190bpm for a km or so.

I’ve planned an easy turbo for today but had a shocking nights sleep, a combo of all three kids tag teaming, waking up and needing attention all at different times.

Over two hours awake last night ffs

Swapped shoes… The difference is scary.


Failed at the last km effort despite claims my HR was lower. Not so sure it was.
