Training - What Training?!

Treadmill 5x800 @4:30/km

Struggled a bit on the 4th so had a longer rest and no problems on the 5th.

It does indeed suck donkey’s balls but I did watch Skyfall this week, so…

‘Tho’ much is taken, much abides; and tho’
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.’

Nice work

Zwift treadmill?!

Using the watch to report speed probably lengthened the intervals a bit but it also made me focus on form, so overall a good think I think.

I think a few of us are “ feeling our age” now.

Physically and race results will obviously decline ( peds an option possibly?!)

However being still reasonably fit and healthy and not having to work is quite nice.

It’s not all bad, most still mostly crap, embrace it we will all be dead soon… but not too soon hopefully

Don’t tell the guys on the sub-17 5km thread but I was out for a couple of hours on The Clwydians this morning.

Things are starting to go Autumnal which is just fucking glorious .

(Sorry for the repetition if you follow me on Strava & The 'gram :man_facepalming:)

That’s me begun on my sun 3 journey:

Inevitably a bit all over the place to begin with, but encouraging - the garmin took a while to adjust to this new sense of urgency. We’d agreed that I had no idea what my 10k pace is so I said safe to assume about 45 mins. So:

2 x 2 mile @ 7:35 pace with 1 mile rec in 8:30 mins between each fast 2 miles ( 5 mile in total)

I was drifting between 6:35 and 7:35.

7:10 seemed to be a constant. Ironing out a suitable route as I went - one undone shoelace and dodging the walking dead

I managed to jog only half a mile recovery and then blew up a few times in the second 2 mile. Would be at 7:35 then surge to 6:35 and then cry when realised I still had half a mile to go

Hard, but different. Hopefully the heel will be able to withstand this new form of self - abuse

Think this counts as training. Had a cricket net session with a coach today. Did some batting and bowling. I absolutely loved it. Wasnt facing fast balls, but I havent swung a bat in 30 years, think I did pretty well, also we never wore helmets back in the day and they take some getting used to.

Got my stance sorted, faced some balls from the bowling machine. Bowling was pretty good was well, even on a tentative run up.

Booked a double session for Xmas holidays which gives me something to aim for and 8 weeks to work on fitness and lose some weight to make the most of that.

Last time a did some bowling in the nets my right side felt like it had been pummelled with a baseball bat for days - lots of unused muscles being put through their paces

Yep, my forearm hurts, my bicep (what the hell is that getting involved for), my shoulders, my left arse cheek, its hard to tell what is from bowling and what is from whacking the fucking mahossive cricket bat Ive got though.

I think the change of focus will be great for you mate. :+1:

Love the feel of a new cherry in the hand but always was mediocre at best on the batting front

Must be 10 years since I played (and then only for work rather than any decent standard) but still have the whites in the wardrobe

I was always a bowler when I played in my teens and terrified of facing the ball batting. I missed one and took a 45mph ball to the thigh with no thigh guard and it didnt hurt. Feel like that gave me some good confidence, Im much bigger and uglier than when I last played. Appreciate the pain as the speed increases will grow but its not like Im going to be facing Jofra Archer in the South Northamptonshire league.

I only spent about 15 mins bowling but a couple of tweaks and I was consistently getting it at middle stump with a bit of swing and pace. Skittled the stumps a couple of times.

Im really buzzing after it and reminded me of when I did my first triathlon and that led in to years of training and participation so I think this will be really good.

10.6km coastal run. Felt fast. Was actually slower than I wanted. Then again, I’m older, slower and more achey than I want to be also.

Scheduled for a 5 mile recovery run @ 8:15 pace or slower.

Weighted calf raises AM - heel still felt fatigued so took bike out for 18 miles.

Got some horrible looking sessions next week - 8 x 800m :flushed: … a 2 mile run followed by 6 x 800m… I and shitey progression tempo runs

This makes me want to take my set of golf clubs to the driving range (and whack a few balls into the next booth )

Mini swim followed by 30 minutes in the turbo

Relatively high heart rate for easy watts - the rona lingers…
