Training - What Training?!

Asthma/chest kicked my ass today. Been having a few ‘Uh Oh’ messages from Strava over the past few weeks. Seems to be some young guns messin’ on my patch. I look up the first one and he’s got ‘Kona 2022’ as part of his Strava name. Hmm, so clearly i did my research. KQ’d in 18-24 by finishing 8th in his AG at Austria in 10:55 - 318th overall. So not a weapon at all. 4:16 mara at Austria. Goes 11:30 in Kona, which i think may be a better result. But still. Putting that as your name on Strava?! Sorry but that’s a trigger for me!

The other guy has been going out once a week on ‘interval’ sessions and has mopped up a couple of my segments including his run yesterday (uphill) “finally got Northview Rd KOM”. Well, it’s time to put a stop to this, and see if there’s any mojo at the bottom of the bag to actually push myself!

Fast forward an hour and i do one segment, and i can barely breathe! Chest just closed up on me, so that put an end to that session.

As for the one segment, Strava had it at 350m, flat and a 62 sec time. Pretty easy i thought, won’t even have to push that hard. The non-Kona crown stealer took the KOM on Monday, and then Kona boy grabs it back yesterday.

But when i ran down to the start i measured it at over 400m. So i’m wondering if the segment start finish is wrong in my head, or if the Strava seg measurement is way off. Over 400m in 62 is a more of an effort! I hit it at about 95% i reckon and end up taking the KOM by 1 sec!

This may make it more fun, as he’ll probably react. Now i know the actual start and finish, i think on a better day (also had a headwind today) i can knock a good few secs off!

Going to have to wait for the chest to clear up before i take back my hilly one. I set the original KOM in the middle of a 6 rep session, not going flat out. So i know there’s plenty in the tank there.

I’m so sad! What’s that we were saying about competitiveness and grit?!

The Kona 22 lad is getting that Strava email in a hospital bed.

Shame, shame on you  .

Wait until he finds out that you are one of the sandbagging kings of TT :joy:

Does he have no principles? You are enemies now!

Yeah but once you are friends, you can see ALL the segments the enemy owns and systematically target them :grimacing:

Schedule: 8 x 800m (0.5 miles) reps at 7min mile
with 0.25 miles recovery at 8 min mile

With 1 mile jog warm up and down

Reality - first 6 800m between 6:30 to 7:00 min, final rep had to make a deviation from kids setting off fireworks on the cycle path.

Comfortably hard. I can see that these and the 2 mile reps are going to be quite unpleasant. But ironing out a decent route. Would be a lot easier on a track I think

Started the 100 a day in November press up challenge

Did 30 this morning before work and then forgot until now

It’s an average figure over the month, right?

Just 100 in a day or smash them out in one hit?

Sounds like a good challenge. I can’t do press ups because my shoulder is foobar so I’ll switch for 100 situps and/or 100 squats instead.

No chance of me just smashing them out - split throughout the day

4x25 wasn’t too bad.

Good luck with that ?!

Throwing in the air and throwing at a target are “ different “

No ten foot target in your gym?

3 x reps weighted calf raises

And 5 mile recovery run ( 8:10 or slower )

Legs were smashed in today. Suppose that’s a good sign

analogue weights for calves ( books weighed on kitchen scales… and a 5 litre bottle of turps ) :arrow_heading_down:

Think it’s up to 22kg currently

My IM Wales or France rucksacks would never take 22kg
