Training - What Training?!

Just smashed my way through a huge portion of pasta, then avocado and tomato salad and cola. Cerveza is a maybe right now but have to drive home from Stansted later.

3 hour run with Mrs T - non stop rain of varying levels of throwing it down

Some new routs over Chat Moss, along the Ship Canal, a bit or urban exploring to pick up the car having left it in town on Saturday after we accidentally had a bottle of wine over lunch

50km running this week down from 70km last week - work got in the way

Bit of a week off this week. Got deep into a random homework project, training a neural network on a database of 43000 German road signs.

Did it make me fitter? No.

Didn’t do much training except pootle to work on the bike and the daily token splash in the pool. Added up to 6h20m with just 12km of running.

Must do better next week. On the plus side the finish line is in sight on this intro to AI course.

IT types: how are your upper backs? Mine is hating all the time hunched over a monitor. Any tips?

Standing desks are great once your used to them.

Got to get everything set up properly, there is HSE guidance. I have a special desk, sits on lifters, custom made monitor riser, put bigger wheels on my chair. You need your eyes level with the monitor and your hands need to rest on the desk with elbows at 90 degrees. A decent high backed chair is a must.

Hunching over a laptop on the kitchen table is a recipe for pain

Slouch with a laptop, on a sofa or beanbag… seriously:
seating positions

To be fair, this research was 2006, and I’ve no idea if anything has happened since, but I have slouched all my life with a laptop – and I have spent a lot of time with a laptop, and never have any back pain, so as always my personal anecdote is better than any study (for me!) I don’t care if any newer research said any different…

The author of the paper hasn’t produced anything since 2007, so maybe he had to stop with a bad back.

I would have thought about 110 degrees would be ideal, 135 and I’d be asleep.

Decent week, touch shorter on the run than I would have liked, building back into training slowly. Starting to plan 2025.

Just short of 11 hours.

I dunno… feels like maybe a thin line there

I’m fine with the right hand side position as long as I’ve got a pulse :grimacing::joy:

Back to around 8.5 hours for me this week. One extra swim and at least one was a reasonable effort but I know I’m not really doing enough to improve, but I’m not sure adding another hour to swimming will see enough improvements at this stage.

Slightly reduced cycling and nothing of any particular distance or quality either, but enough to tick over I think and will probably do at least one Zwift session this week.

Only 3 runs but this morning was the key effort of the week so was quite pleased with that.

Couple of easy days to recover then push back on again.

Got out on the coast path this evening during the kiddo’s swim slot (plus a 2km parkrun this morning).

Chucked it down all last light and up until about 12. Then the sun switched on and the humidity cranked up. I had sweat literally pouring off the peak of my cap in rivulets! My vest was drenched.

Managed 12.65kms with 685m elevation in about 85 mins, which included a slightly spicier final km on the seafront to use up the last few mins.

Week overall was decent for me.

62.5km running with 1650m elevation. That include one hill rep session and this coastal run. Plus a 1hr 45 social bike ride with mates on sat.

If I had a other month I think I could get myself in OK shape. As it stands I have about 12 days! :joy:

Might try and push a 100km week and then ease down from there.

Snap. Another busy day here too. Only gaps from work were a quick dash in the car to home bargs to get wrapping paper and made a start on wrapping a bunch of Squishmallows and other related paraphernalia! :joy:

Long day at the office in store tmw as well.

Can feel my throat tightening and the littlest one is full of a cold. So no doubt I’ll be fighting that too!
