Training - What Training?!

It’s difficult with multisport training.

Too cold in the garage for MyWhoosh.
The strip lights won’t even turn on!

-7° outside, so no running in the ice and snow either.

Cancelled my gym membership, as rarely went.

So just walking the dogs for me

Yesterday was -5C and training area was 1C, did 90 minutes 3x 16’ tempo which was okay (was going to be 1h45 but no way was I doing an extended cooldown after sweating during the tempo)

Today was -7C and an active recovery ride, 60 minute. Training area Zero rusty old thermometer so might have been a touch warmer.
Overshoes, two jackets, running tights over bibs, full gloves… it was kind of fun.

I’ve an open coal/log fire next to my office desk.
Far more appealing :joy::see_no_evil:

Didn’t check the thermometer but forecast was -2°, knocked out hard intervals on the treadmill in the Fortress of Solitude. Zwift Fast Fridays.

Watch says I’m unproductive because I’m not sprinting enough ha ha.

Thats not how it works. It is more interested in your HR and weight for a given power output or pace.

It because it ‘thinks’ your VO2max is going down. To be more accurate it is because your Garmin VO2max is reducing. That may or may not be due to training balance, sprinting or lack of it.
You training balance is not (directly) related to the training status.

You could do exclusively high Aerobic or only low Aerobic and nothing in the other focuses, as long as it makes your VO2max go up. Having said this it more likely the algorithm will calculate an increase in VO2max with a more balanced focus.

The reality is if fitness isnt changing much it just indicates a change in weight. I e Weight goes up for a given HR and pace or power - unproductive… same hr and power at a lower weight - productive.

Here is mine, Productive, even less sprinting but my weight is reducing and my power per heart rate is improving throughout my power duration curve.

PS nice garmin training load, and more intensity than myself.

I need to clean my watch screen… lol

Another week. Another big fat zero next to swimming.

Treadmill at lunch, though. 5k pyramid, 1k 30 minute tempo pace, 1k @ 5k pace, 1k balls out and back down the other side.

And another big win in the “not drowning” column. Well done in making sure the odds were in your favour on that one.

Thanks guys but it literally said status is unproductive because I’m not doing enough anaerobic workouts, which is fine as I actually had been planning on a sprint session anyway. Sadly the pop up messages disappear so you’d have to be quick to snap them.

So I took a pick of the load distribution instead

Edit

May have found it.

It’s bike, and my recent group rides had a shed load of anaerobic work but I wanted to run hard.

Ultimately, what tickled me was that so much talk of not going to hard and so on and then my watch literally says you need to burn it up mister!

I understand why you are reading it that way, but its not specifically the reason its saying unproductive. It is indicating that you have a high training load and VO2max is not improving, in fact it is decreasing, most probably because of fatigue.
It is also saying load focus isn’t balanced but thats not necessarily why its registering unproductive, note the “and you fitness is decreasing.”

Training Status. ← explained

The firstbeats paper, cant find it at the moment explains it in detail.

Mine always has the ‘anaerobic shortage’ text but I have a Productive status for months at a time.

The two arent intrinsically linked.

Anyway I guess I’m being a bit pedantic, so ignore as you wish.

Sprint work is always good from time to time and it will help with more balance.
