I thought I was well prepared for cricket this year, compared to last. Lost 11kg, been running, swimming, strength training over winter. Nope, still fucked from nets on Thursday. Batting has destroyed my forearms, hurt like hell. Bowling my front quads and/or hip flexors are stiff and sore. Shoulder not too bad but the upper part of my pec is really sore.

On the plus side Im loving batting which I was shit at start of last year. Hoping this year I can be more of a Stokesy style all rounder than open the bowling and bat 10/11.

I know nothing about cricket, but that sounds like a pretty specific set of movements that’s going to be difficult to train for outside of doing it?

Yeah I think youre right. Doesnt really matter what I do, its not the same as the actual movements. Hopefully ill get used to it.

I dont think its as bad as last year, I remember being in agony, so hopefully it will be ok.

I would guess that’s the most you can hope for, being fitter overall making for faster recovery. Good luck.

Last time I did a nets session (about 10 years ago) I could barely move for about 4 days. Muscles all down my right side from bowling when you are not used to it - absolute murder

Sounds like you are starting from a significantly better starting point.

The body is amazing at adapting to the specific strains placed upon it. As said above in one of the comments, you will probably need the adaptations from actually playing, it might take a few weeks or games. Dont be hard on yourself.

Enjoy the progress you’ve made so far, more will come… stick with it.

Pretty poor week, just under 7 hours, with probably about 4 of that running. Had the best of intentions to do a decent Zwift tonight but couldn’t be bothered so after doing about 20 minutes I had a short sauna

I’ll have a talk to myself tonight and back on it tomorrow :muscle:

Went for a run after work last night, both hamstrings felt as tight as. Couldn’t figure out why, then remembered had played Squash again on Saturday - pretty sure it’s that. It’s a killer that game.

Couple of zwift rides this weekend, a Llama late join or two to get some hats and socks. 5k run/walk today. Achilles feeling very tight despite loads of stretching and yoga. Might go see the physio for some deep tissue work before i get a proper issue

I started last week with great intentions to complete at 12 spin classes at my local gym
There 45 mins a pop but I went in early and did 60 mins for them all.
By weds tea time I was 6/6 and flying ( a point to note is I saw low 68 kgs for the first time for a very long time, only water weight I know) but best laid plans and all that …
We have four female instructors three I get on with ( one races, 5 and 10 ks, one is a huge fight fan the other is polish and quite mad but always smiling.
One of them despises me … ( she has told several people this ) she goes bananas on her classes with plans, music etc, three of us who rides bikes outside don’t really get involved in the dumbbell exercises … she sees this as a personal attack ?!
I did try and explain how good her classes were … and the benefits it brings to riding outside … dead stare … walked off … lol.

Obviously old Gary would have gone pysco, I’m not that guy anymore her husband is the assistant manager … a nicer guy you couldn’t wish to meet… opposites attract they say !

Anyway I missed her double class and saved what could have been a proper argument, fumin but I did the right thing I guess…
Sorry for going on … anyway 9 spin classes, two swims, one wright session and a run outside yesterday
13.5 k
4:55 kms
Av hr 138… ( nice )
14 hours
Three over 4000 cal days
Onwards

Ha agree on Squash. I used to play at college and Uni and it would mash my calfs and ankles. All the pivoting and sharp bursts. Great for cardio though
