Your the third person to say very similar i was thinking 14, 12, 6 at the start of race week hours wise… then a complete 3 days off…
Ill actually be in the sun for some of this, Gran Canaria, but nice pool, trails. watt bike etc.
I dont know what TSS means, i would guess at Training stress score?! But it would be a guess, in laymans terms im pretty ducked, but know ill come back to life in the next ten days as the volume cuts.
Ive had 8-10 hours sleep every night for the last 28 days, which has really really helped.
This is my shortfall; although I wouldn’t need 10. I normally get about 7, maybe 8 on a Saturday depending on our 5 year old!
Correct about TSS. You get it on various software platforms & devices (Garmin Connect, Training Peaks etc). Good thing about TP is that it gives you TSS for swimming too, which Garmin won’t, as there’s no HR data.
10 1/2 hours for me last week, mainly cycling bar one short swim and a junior parkrun with my boy. PB at a local 30TT which also included the team win, and a new club team record
Following Coach Cox’s Ironman taper as it’s pretty simple to do.
Just shy of 10 hours totalled up.
Pool swimming I am flying along
Lake swimming, not so much
Bike legs starting to feel less fatigued as the second half of yesterday’s 50 miles felt better than the first.
Run legs can’t decide
This morning had 10 x 100m off 1:45 and I was making 1:27-1:29 which is the fastest all year
I then sat in the sauna for 20 minutes and thought this will be cool compared to Frankfurt
X3 bikes - 1hr slow commute, 1hr TR turbo / 5hr40 long ride on Saturday. Underfuelled, so although not quite struggling, I was slowing up a bit in the last hour.
X2 swims in the pool, with one of them being a 3k straight swim. Need to get back in the lake at some point this week.
X2 runs. A steady 8m followed by a 3m, both run commutes. Managed to tweak my right calf again, but I think it will be ok to run on this evening.
I know I’m not doing big hours compared to most, but I’m really looking forward to getting off the Ironman training treadmill in a couple of weeks; it just all feels a little relentless at the moment.
Oh yeah, it’s meant to be 35 degrees in Zurich this week. I know it’s 4 weeks away but as someone that doesn’t really do heat, this could be interesting.
First full week back training after 2/3 disrupted weeks where I did very little except put weight on
1 Swim - 2843m OW
4 Bikes - 113km (Plus 2 days commuting - 22km)
2 Runs - 17km
Swim & Bike seem Ok but time off and weight seems to have hammered my run (which was crap to start with) stupidly high hear rate for worse pace than before lay-off.
I can probably do your 25K later in the week if that helps Poet, hammy needs to ease first.
Mungo, usually a 2 week taper for me as well, although I usually do my last long run on a Friday which gives me about 16 days for running. First week I probably ease down to about 75%, second week is really easy for an Ironman, swimming, run with a few strides or couple of leg stretches, similar on the bike as well.
Pretty much 3 weeks left for me before tapering but I’m a bit battered from yesterday so it’s going to be hard work, Matt is probably in the same boat, especially after crushing the bike yesterday.
Well…I’ve never blown up 3km into a training run before
After 30 minutes I knew it was going to be grim.
Absolute death march through the next 90 minutes.
Pace was bang on at 5:20/km.
HR was fooking sky high at 153!
I’d usually be 138bpm for a run at that pace.
I’ve decided to split my long run today. Looking back at some old training diaries I see that in my best year, I did quite a few of these. Plus it will ease the burden of the mileage on my legs, which are suffering a bit now. My knee is starting to protest, which I suspect is down to wrecked quads. Mainly feel it on the bike, but the foam rolling and massage ball frenzy has begun in earnest.
About an hour very easy at lunchtime, as much shade & off-road as I can find, then about 1:15 home tonight. Brought the VFs into work too, so might wear them for the run home.
I’m worried though, because it’s eye meltingly hot out there
ETA - realised I left my HRM at home, so will have to rely on wrist HR
I was up at 0530, walked the dog, took my wife to the station, then came back to hit F5 waiting for the 8am drop of the trainers for those who completed the challenge…only to find out it’s 9am
I now have to run in temperatures that melt the skin off mortal men.
Not to worry, it’s only 3*2km at some ridiculous pace, with a 3km warm up and cool down, absolute vomit.
Yes…I was on the webchat wondering when I’d get my email.
The launch to challenge members was on Monday, so looks like I missed the boat there, as I didn’t get the email.
