Also I have a hunch the old P2 may actually be more aero for me. Think the higher front end on the Speedmax must mean the frontal surface area is a bit more.
This was on the P2 in a flat out and back TT last March. Think I did calculate the cda at the time, it was ok but nowhere near as good as folk like @leahnp can get. That course was about as friendly as they come by the way, perfectly smooth tarmac, straight line, flat, no cars, no wind to speak of.
Got out for a run. It’s was 6.66km not sure if that’s ominous or not!
Back was tight but not painful. I can live with that. I’ve pretty much just accepted it now and am going to try to do normal stuff and just respond accordingly. Kind of accepting thta it’ll be permanently sore and stiff until it gets strong again.
Still, happy to run comfortable under 24.30 for a 5km just plodding about. Not sure I could go much quicker. But it is nice to be running!
Was planning on a sea swim tomorrow whilst the kid trains. But it’s windy, messy and 5ft waves! May give it a miss!
But i’ve run a grand total of 95km in the last 35 weeks. And about 80% of that was in January. And my exercise outside of running has been equally as poor! 13th October this issue started, so coming up to 8 months and not feeling like I’m much further forward beyond the worst acute phase in Oct/Nov.
Saturday: 14.6km 1hr20 steady trail run with a small backpack to OW swim, +150m elevation, 5.27/km average. Then OW swim, 2700m ish, 1.50-2.00/100m ish, I think Garmin over-read. Did 1900m in one go to start with, to make sure I can get round the swim next weekend.
Today: 100km on TT bike 3h51, 26kph, 223w NP, 187w average, TSS 216. +1774m elevation gain. Felt very comfortable on the bike, making little adjustments and seem to be happy now. Was a bit breezy, so getting confidence.
I’m probably about as aero as a parachute, I am 188cm and 85kg, so not the lightest/smallest. I ride round the Peaks, so that’s about the minimum elevation I can find without riding up and down the A6. Usually it’s at least 20m climbing per km.
Ive not scrolled back and looked at the original message recently, I think Jeff covered the main points.
I would add it is incredibly dependant on the individual and also the circumstances of their build. It is more an art than a science.
Personal I would not specifically taper into a B race 70.3, I would schedule a down / recovery week into the event. Which I guess is the same as a 5 - 7 day taper.
Re 2 week taper
For a Marathon yes. A half IM and fatigued 7-10 days but as I said very individual.
I’ll see how it goes this week. Will probably do an 8k run in the morning (did 15k last week), then 30k ride Tuesday morning as usual (final check of bike and race kit), Weds usual 12k run, unless I’m shattered. Then rest Thursday and Saturday, maybe Friday as well if I’m pooped.
I had 2 rest days last week, as I had a slight mechanical on the bike on Friday, so cut the ride short at 8k, so this weekend I was feeling relatively full of beans.
2 x runs this week, plus a paddle on the rescue boards w I th the kids in some choppy surf on wed. Also helped with a land based session for them on Sat as the sea was hugely stormy. Ran about 2-3 km and played tug of war! Back was mostly ok!
Highlight was the 6.5km run with my daughter today though. She was full of energy today so I asked if she wanted to urn back from the grandparents with me and she said yes! She’s not been that bothered with running, much preferring her swimming and paddling so I was chuffed to do this with her.
Despite last doing a parkrun probably 2 years ago she cruised the run at 5.25 pace with me. But I just enjoyed running with her.
