Training - What Training?!

That is a great weeks work.

Light week for me. But to be expected with the new job starting on Monday which has wiped me out.

Paddle on Wed coaching the kids, a 1500m or so sea swim yesterday and then squeezed a run in today (although was very close to my dinner!).

Ran back from the next town over the cliffs and up the river. Starting to feel a bit stronger now so ran all the hills and built the effort throughout the run.

Ended up with a nice 11.2km with 253m elevation avg pace at 4.50s. Trotting along the flats at 4.30s in trail shoes and feeling quite happy.

Pleased with how I’m progressing, nice and steady and sensible.

10.5 hrs this week

Pretty pleased all in all

Another decent week of consistent training

Hit 60 on fitness levels on training peaks which I am pretty pleased with very little cycling (which I think Training Peaks tends to favour - or maybe that’s just me)

5.5km easy run with LO and Mrs FP, that took us to the Market Place in Wells. Then we had breakfast at the Crown, then walked the 2km back to Mum’s house.

I wouldn’t say that I have just realised, as I have known for a while, but the fact that I have a 160km gravel ride in three weeks has now fully dawned on me. Too late in the day to do anything meaningful but I do need to actually do SOMETHING. So 40kms this morning, very gravelly and a little bit of walking the bike too.

Don’t forget that this weekend will be written off because you’ll be meeting me on your perfectly rebuilt and running VFR

More just to try and flush out a bit of soreness from yesterday.

Managed to get a couple of hours on the bike today, and then ticked off the Zwift climb for the bonus XP :joy:

Was going to swim but life caught up with me and I ended up working on the fence, it’s quite relaxing destroying a panel with a great big wrecking bar

Went for a run this morning on the cliff paths, a loop I used to do back in the mists of time in my 20s.

Sadly no Strava record. But from memory, back then, it used to take about an hour at a decent effort.

Today it took 1h13 for what I’m guessing felt like similar effort.

I was trying to remember what it felt like to run back then. It’s hard to cast your mind back like that, but I think the main difference is I was just bouncier in the joints and the ups and downs were not such hard work.

The old bones can still run ok if pointed in a straight line on a flat road, but the twisting uneven cliff paths feel way harder now.

I’d blame it on years of environmental cliff ground erosion!

Years of erosion certainly…

Family hike today, not huge but immensely enjoyable.
Started at The Swan at Rowberrow ( a few miles north of Cheddar). Did the same route that I did at Xmas with Craig. Up to Beacon Batch, which i think is the highest point on the Mendips.

A different way back. My Mum and sister met us at the pub at the end and we had a lovely family lunch.

Not much happening today, or yesterday for that matter.

Managed a 20 minute swim tonight but at least tried to put a bit of effort in, at 15K of commuting to\from work!

Tomorrow isn’t looking great either, luckily I was aiming for an easy week.
