Training - What Training?!

Thing is it’s the same every year.
I seem to have become a pool swimmer

Put the new gear levers and pads on the TT bike, so took her out for a spin as she’s not been outside since August

Everything seems to work

1:00:00
20.5 miles / 240W NP

Tried a cheeky 5km off the bike but the Garmin had other ideas. Same route as always but it read as 2.96 miles 🤷🏼

20:39 / should be 6:39 pace

Garmin then started making high pitched beeping noises, so soft reset.

Weird old ride for me this morning. Up bright and early and out by 5am.

First hour was crap. I hadn’t even planned a route. Just turned the opposite way to normal and made it up from there. Chose the cycle path for the first few miles as couldn’t be bothered. Seriously considered going home a number of times. Decided to keep heading away from home for at least an hour, that way I’ll get a 2 hour ride in.

On top of that tri bars weren’t tightened up properly so wriggled loose and unusable. Oh that’s OK. I have a 2 million piece multi tool. Yeah, of course it didn’t have the Allen key size I needed! :see_no_evil::joy:

After an hour stuff settled down and I was enjoying myself. So cracked on. But then realised I’d left half my nutrition at home! :see_no_evil::joy: Was rationing shot blox but then found a mini bag of haribo in my gilet pocket. Winner. Probs needed more than 1 water bottle as well as it was getting hotter and hotter with every minute.

All in all, was a a good ride and the numbers weren’t too bad, especially with the first hour feeling sorry for myself! :joy:

86.4kms

Another good week for me. 4 to go! :exploding_head:

Easy 9.61km jog, 48mins.
Takes me to over 800km for the year (500 miles. -
Some club challenge to run 1,000 miles)

Only two swims this week, as sacked off Tuesdays, rearranged to Friday (alarm didn’t go off) rearranged to Sunday (had booked for Monday :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:)
1.8km as 6 x 300s
3.8km OW in 59mins, an OW PB, but about 2
Minutes off where I thought I’d be :frowning:
Need to work on concentration here, as those middle two 750m splits were awful, last one is always good, as I know I’m about to get out
I’m keeping swimming as is, right until race week;
Drills, Speed, Endurance OW, free choice (bonus swim)

Bikes?
An hour on the TT bike IRL, an hour on Zwift and a ~100km 34kmh 214W NP ride.
Which was meant to be 165km, but I felt sick.
Not too fussed, as last weeks 205km ride was an unplanned bonus day out 👯‍♀️
Bikes are just working on the IM power and the concentration required to maintain that at about 140bpm (zone 1)

Runs?
Started the week with a 33km jog in the heat
Easy jog on Thus, Fri and Sunday :+1:t3:
Just watching that pace vs HR now.
There’s no speed work I can inject this late, so it’s all about managing not to be injured.

11hrs 800TSS

Nice work.

This is possibly the most triathlete thing I’ve ever seen you write.

I can only apologise. I left my mini soreen and naked bar on the island in the kitchen.

Is that better?

Went to Arlesford for breakfast than a bit of a recovery walk. If we’d passed a river like this yesterday it would have been full of runners!

Last decent ride on the bike.
Swapped large tool bottle behind saddle for smaller one that seemed to be more stable.
20 miles out…and realise tool bottle isn’t there.

Backtrack pretty much back to start and find it in middle of the road :grimacing:

Lovely out there today :sun_with_face:

Reckon those ducks would have been in peril too

Water at my local lake has reached 19 degrees so it’s time for me to start open water swimming :joy:
4 sessions in the last 8 days. It’s a 550m lap so I’m just doing 2 or 3 laps. Waters clear enough to see the fish. :+1:

Up very early, 3.5 mile hilly run. 7 minute mile pace.

60m ride in the Surrey and Sussex lanes, with a few digs up a few hills. All lovely, except for the absolute lunatics in cars.

Its the first 30 degree day, so ideal time for heat acclimatization for Lanza.
6km @ 5m/km pace warmup
14km, start at 5m/km build to 3:50/km pace by end
7km @ 6m/km to find my wife
7km @ 5:20/km run home

34km in the heat was a shock to the system… and training peaks only gives me a TSS of 140

I’ve rarely noticed the heat in Lanza thanks in the main to the effect of the lovely cooling breeze/hurricane

Plus you’ve already been slow roasted for 8+ hours before the run starts!

(Still jealous)
