Yeah it’s great. It’s called Clifton Court in Putsborough. We are regulars, so we book direct with owner but there are about 25 apartments here and most of them are on sites like ‘Holiday Cottages’ etc
I haven’t done anything today aside from a. crappy surf session this morning. Thought I might go for a run but ate some snacks and fell asleep on the sofa.
That’s ok on holiday, right?
I think my off season has already started. Not really sure I had much of an on season, tbh. A handful of TTs and that’s about it.
Main focus for the foreseeable future, read all winter, is to see if I can keep hitting the stretching and strength work on my left ankle. As a very loose target I’m kind of hoping that I might be able to start running by the new year. Time will tell. Other than that, Sunday rides with mates and Zwift rides in the shed. That’s about it.
30 mile bike with an old school pal - Northants around here is just up down up down up down etc - sort of exaggerated ridge and furrow topography. Mega nice quiet country roads.
27km trail run/walk. From Putsborough to Lee village.
Bit of an adventure. Started over Potters Hill to Woolly, then to Morte Pt but I remember the race guide said something about cutting the tip of the point off. Tried that, got hopelessly lost, found path again, lost about 15mins.
Proceeded towards Bull Pt, the path got more gnarly, much walking. Then saw Bull Pt, promptly went wrong again by turning up the road. About 1km later saw a runner who put me straight, lost another 15mins but I’d rather make these mistakes now.
Then I hit the the valley between Bull Pt and Lee. Fuck me dead that’s technical, and stairs and I’ll be doing it at night. What a bloody quad buster that is!
Just before Lee, saw a guy walking the other way with a trail vest, he’d caught the bus from Puts to Ilfracombe and was walking back. At this point I was running low on water. Somehow, I’d forgotten to pack my vest and nutrition. Luckily I had some gels and shot blocks at Mums we picked on the way and I got one of the hand held from mountain warehouse. I hate running with them but it was better than nothing but only 350ml.
So I turned right into Lee and followed endless signs to a mythical cafe but after 1.5km it never appeared. I figured to take it easy back, take some blocks and eek out my water to Watersmeet, where there is always a coffee van. Came back via Morte Pt proper, FMD I can see why you might not go around there at night!
Got to Watersmeet and the bloody van wasn’t there. I trotted on and caught the walking guy. We chatted, walked into Woolly where I inhaled a Coke, sausage roll and more water. Then I just walked back with my new mate across the beach.
27kms, 4hrs42, 1105 mtrs vert.
Who was asking about the curry shack? Still there!
First hour bike hour run with a 90 sec gap for 2 months ish…?!
Bike really felt the extra power and a 2021 pb by some margin, then I totally bottled the run… 10 kph … the other 57? hour runs off the static in the last two years have all been 12!
Felt really comfortable and av hr 119, faster run next time !
Second day back on Zwift, thought I’d have a go up the Alpe, averaged 3w/kg, conservative start, possibly too conservative really but better than pedalling squares at the top.
80odd km windy, cold, and finished at the top of a massive hill (well a couple of minutes…) - garmin says 15 hours recovery, but I’m gonna go for a run shortly before dinner instead. Had a tea stop at 75odd km, a bacon sandwich of the 5 quid variety not the van by the side of the road variety. 3hours AVG 123 HR 147W 169 NP

4k Bike 237watts 7:35.7
2k Ski … Plan was 195 watt splits but did the first 500mtr at 223 watts and paid dearly for it down the home straight. Was close to fainting / puking and quit with 150mtrs left with output down to 180 watts and HR at 192.
Reset machines got heart rate settled and did a steady state standalone row r20
