No, Run Efficiency is way too variable, on the bike you’re at least measuring something simple (a turn of the cranks), in running the output is way more complicated. Obviously in the end over longer periods, your body is capable of producing X watts, but how that translates to output is much more varied.
Did I miss an app in the link then?
20 minute recovery ride, sweating out yesterdays beer.
I don’t know much about it, but intuitively think that if there’s a big gap between bike and run performance for the same power, that ought to suggest a potential for improvement?
Alan Couzens has a calculator although at a quick glance maybe it only works if you have actual data from, IM Arizona or Kona ![]()

My training buddy has a Stryd run power meter but its a step too far down geek alley for me. Still, could be interesting to try I guess
Yeah, it’s interesting but the long story short is “lose weight, run more”, for me. If I was on the verge of winning Kona, it might be more complicated. I am starting to think I have more in the bike tank than I thought, though.
Depending on how inefficient a runner you are, and what is driving that inefficiency, some of the components of run inefficiency are not trainable - such heavy lower legs, or the make up of your achilles tendon.
So, this week: Picked up on the bike (those are fake indoor klicks) and swim until my medical concerns are resolved, guts feeling no worse and no better.
I won’t lie, I’m enjoying three sports training ![]()
Sleep has been abysmal, I didn’t wear my watch on a couple of nights so 6h is rose tinted. I did the BBC sleep survey yesterday and realise a lot of my sleep problems are external rather than me myself. Perhaps some things to work on.
8.5hrs total; 1h swim 5.5h bike 2h run.
Interesting that the stryd blog uses weight as a denominator in time prediction formula. So they feel time is inversely proportional to weight, or to put it another way run pace is directly proportional- for a specific power.
Guess this explains why i got chicked today by a girl who looked like she weighed about 6 stone at most ![]()
(Also she probably trained)
Finished off an up and down week with 15 press ups per min for 30 mins.
Tough.
Ten hours.
Two good static bikes and some faster running, relative to very slow.
Weight holding at 80 kg.
Soon be summer
Half marathon on the SkiErg this morning and a 2k run with the kids after lunch.
26.3km run later afternoon/evening - absolute pants - no energy at all.
Did a 21.5km walk yesterday afternoon with daughter but wouldn’t normally slow me down the next day.
Put to shame by my sons marathon efforts this morning (3.14) - feeling every one of my 51 years
Thames Path in 5 weeks time i fear has become a complete (to get entry into the ballot for the Western States for the 6th time) rather than targeting any particular time
21 k on one of those things…!?
How long did that take ?!
Well done
90mins 17seconds lost a minute for a toilet break at the 10k mark.
Can she hold 5W/KG though ![]()
I’m going to have a go at that…
I won’t be near that time.
Out of interest can you ski erg faster than you can run the half marathon ?
6km easy run. Just wanted something in the bag as I have to go to Newport later.
35.15 at 5.51 pace. Bloody miserable out there!
Fairly chilled weekend, finishing off deload week at the gym with deadlifts plus the usual accessory work Friday. An absoulte shambolic football game on Saturday with the worst ref I’ve ever experienced. 21km at 4:32s on Sunday which actually felt pretty chill at that pace. Was stood in the shower after and noticed my heel was hurting with weight on it. Still sore this morning when I start to put weight on it with no shoes/hard floor. Now panicking its plantar fasciitis. Do I take the week off running to try and catch it early? My calves have been tight the last few weeks.
I would, yes. Get those calves stretched ASAP and see if that helps over the next couple of days. Better to be safe than sorry, especially if you can still pick up ‘work’ on the bike in the interim.
Do you have recovery sandals? I’ve found i feel this more over winter when i’m wearing slippers with little support.
