Training - What Training?!

Were they different surfaces? And/or elevation? I guess that would make a difference.

No not really. Today’s run was pretty much an extension of yesterday’s. Just looked at my watch now and still says just 20,921 steps. Something very odd going there!

Yeah this late training malarkey is not gonna wash. I’m normally in bed asleep at 10pm. Instead I’m in the kitchen making bagels about to watch the Giro highlights! :pig_nose:

Did a swim, of sorts. Got progressively slower with every single set until I got annihilated by cramps! :joy:

The sick thing is, even though I’m a bit crap and slow I sort of enjoyed it. Same as my sea swim. When I’m in the water I enjoy it. But the thought of going drives absolutely zero motivation. Weird.

one thing I found with evening and particularly night training is that I can do any of three disciplines at that time but not all the time.

I’ll go through stages where I think there is no way I’m running at night but riding is fine and vice versa. Mentally, I struggle with the gap between finishing work, family duties and then getting cracking again.

I can generally force myself to do an early doors session and can adjust my mood but a night session really has to ā€˜drop in my lap’ especially one that has me leaving the house (as opposed to Zwift)

I’m fine when I do the activity, it’s the getting to sleep that bothers me. If it’s an easy session, it’s not normally too big a deal. But if it’s a hard session, then I know I’ll be a) hungry and b) buzzing for a couple of hours!

Tbf I’m feeling pretty tired now. If I’m sleeping by 11 I’ll call that a win.

I suffer badly from RLS if I do too much at night.

Did a late weights session, now sat here with my legs jiggling like a muthafucker. Never made the connection before. I dont like training in the evening. As much as I like being in bed, getting up early and smashing shit out early is best for me

yeah it’s a horrible feeling, I either have the twitching or this slow lind of moving where my ankles seem to be in constant rotation. It’s really annoying and prevents sleep for me.

Same. Its a massive factor in my sleep problems. For me its always in the quads, just an unwavering need to move or clench them.

I’ve used compression tights many times to sleep cause of restless legs.
Works almost every time too. No idea if anything more than placebo (or just heat)…but can be wide awake and irritable, put them on any be out in minutes

Everything about that (aside from Cornwall) sounds foul.

Good luck @FatPom, sounds like you’re putting a serious shift in!

After last nights 10k race, 50 minutes in the gym this morning. Rowing, glute activation and strength, some upper body and core.

Hmm, this could get dangerous. A mate just got in touch and let me know about a tri club swim session in Sidmouth (next town along the costs the other way to where I went last night) on a Thurs eve 7.45-8.45.

Reay good timing for me, and he’s a really good athlete. First couple of session for free then payg. Wonder if 8 coached sessions can help me out?!

He said the coach there really helped his swimming come on (as you’d hope/expect).

I feel dirty that I’m considering this.

If you reckon you’re ā€˜that’ slow then getting technique sorted before any kind of extra training will be beneficial. So some coaching could definitely see some improvements is what I’m saying :joy:

Thanks mate. The closest to anything like I’ve done was last year’s NC110, which started at 8pm in Oct, I DNF’d that, so the signs aren’t good

I am getting better at night though and really getting used to headtorch running. I suppose one good thing about The Plague is that at least you’re dealing with darkness when your brain is relatively fresh. :man_shrugging:

I’m not mega slow. I’m just very swim unfit, and probably do have terrible technique.

I did IM Wales in 1.10, so I guess mid pack - though I was swimming once or twice a week at a masters session for that and it was in 2013!!! :joy:

. As mentioned before, I have neither the time or inclination to swim 3 times a week to get good. But I could do with being more comfortable at my current pace. That’s fitness.

That ā€œswimā€ you did last night reminds me of someone else on here :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

So yes, for sure go to those sessions.
They’re really good and you get good really quickly.

#PowerOfTheCrowd and all that jazz

@gingerbongo - your swim was 415th from ~1600 finishers. So ā€œfrontā€ pack :+1:t3::kissing_heart:

Gave my heel some abuse last night to see how it faired with some pace. 5min at 4:30s, 5mins at 3:30s, 5mins at 4:30s, 1min walk, repeat 3 times. It got minging towards the end as I haven’t done much pacey stuff in quite a while now due to the injury. But again no issues afterwards. An unexpected KOM, a 41min 10k, and a 20min 5k, I probably shouldn’t be unhappy with that for a ā€˜getting back to training’ run.

TC will start swimming proactively soon and I’ll be on my own :weary:
