Trans Continental Race 27th July 2025

What’s the closest thing you’ve done to this Matt? I’ve done a few 6-7 day, 8-9hr a day cycling camps and I found I could not eat enough even by day 3! And that was with being based at a hotel or chalet. I can’t imagine this at all.

Is there any community help, especially for first timers? Do people ever plan to ride sections together?

I have been told similar thing, probably need more fat in diet than normal. Trouble is that when I am exercising I really don’t want to eat fatty foods. Healthy fats if I can find them, nuts and avocadoes

There is a ton of research and admin, I am only scratching the surface

I have a plan of hotels where I will sleep, but I am not booking anything, so hoping that I can get a room. Albania is tricky, not many cities, and I really am not keen riding through the night or staying by the road. I am not carrying a tent, probably just a lightweight sleeping bag. Hopefully it will be just one night in Albania, in Peshkopi, next night will be in Greece

I’ve done some cycle touring many years ago, and a 5 day ultra, so this will be a new experience. Everyone says that day 3 is terrible… based on my plan, Day 3 will be the biggest climbing day, with Gotthard, San Bernardino and Splugen passes (all over 2000m) in a single day

A Swiss rider who has done it 3 times already contacted me to offer help. There is also a FB group. I am not sure about riding sections together, would need to keep at a non drafting distance, but having some company may be comforting

Just got the new race manual with all of the parcours and check points. We have a 110km descent from the top of Stelvio (2420m) to Bolzano (240m)… that’s a big down hill

I believe the answer is pemmican, although everything I’ve read about it makes it sound horrible

In my (by comparison rather feeble) RAID trips, day 3 is always the worst.
I’ve done 4 x 6 day trips of c100 miles a day / 2.5-3000m climbing and it’s always the same

fats help with satiation, which means you can fill yourself with carb/protein drinks…but they do delay digestion (hence helping with satiety)

As mentioned for those wanting to follow my TCR and training activities leading up to…

I try and keep updates on the gram via stories if you like seeing some random stuff, amusing incidents and scenery.

Loving the IBM Mainframe in between the bars :kissing_heart:

But being serious, what tyres your riding for TCR?
I’m guessing 32mm is “normal” for that?

I love those “kit” videos on YouTube, and from TT days of yore when people would post their race setups and nutrition all laid out :banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

Frame bags?
Saddle bag torpedo thing?
Bar bag?

That’s half the fun!

Looking great, thought you might have (double?) wrapped all the way to under the clip-ons…& perhaps a missed opportunity for a trotter shot  .

Only just noticed this thread, Kudos to you both.

I have been considering the Perfidious Albion events myself, but this is next level.

Will dot watch with enthusiasm.
