The route has split off into two forks, one on the Southern German border and the other pointing towards Frankfurt.
Seen that Matt did update instagram in the night but haven’t listened yet

It was quite generic.
It’s warm. Making good progress. Nothing major.
Gut tells me I’d have plumped for the French (western) route, which seems to be the majority.
I can’t find Spooner on the tracker site. What number is he?
252
Theres a “details” tab on the right side of the map; brings up a search.
It’s weird how it looks like the front of the western/southern ‘prong’ are ahead, despite having covered less distance than #3 on the northern prong.
And when one dot has a mind of their own.
Pair 303 currently just going straight East into Germany rather than diagonal
Yeah that’s an odd one!
Matt said on the insta video that his aim was to ride down the Rhine valley … most of the Eastern group are doing that so I guess a bit less efficient and a bit more relaxed; no hills, no traffic.
He’ll drop back a lot of places overnight but the leaders of the Western group are only just reaching his planned stopping point at Mannheim now.
The top two from last year are choosing different routes; keeps it interesting.
Anyone know how the tracker calculates ‘stopping time’? I’m assuming it doesn’t pick it up unless it’s over like 5/10 mins or so as all the leaders are on ‘0 mins’ stopped. Surely they must have stopped for water etc at least?!
If I learnt anything from last year it’s that the leaders basically survive on moisture from the air. Their stopped time is much more impressive than average speed and that ability to keep going and not stop/sleep seems to be what separates them from the rest.
Nice video from the 2015 winner dropped in my regular Hunt e-mail.
“I treat the TCR as one massive long time trial”
The definition of an Ultra, is anything you at some point regret entering
The odd thing is that anything over a Marathon is considered an ‘ultra’ yet Ironman is just considered ‘bog standard’.
Parents race at school sports day is my worst nightmare.
Some of the parents come in running kit.
This was my thought, surely you need to stop for water or resupply food?
Presumably they don’t bother stopping for the toilet, I’d end up piss all over my frame bag
Looks like Matt is in the ibis for the night, with someone else asleep in the carpark.
Yeah I thought it was weird he was in a train station until I clocked the hotel.
Must have just spent pretty much an entire day riding
This race is just absolute nuts.
An Ironman is a double marathon with a bit of swimming
