Great updates on insta Mattš
Keep going guys, youāre both doing amazing @Matthew_Spooner and @Sowler
Just dinner stop. I pushed on to CP1 arriving at 0200. Massive day for me yesterday, easier today I think
I was just working all that out from your dot. Going well
Itās great that you are tracking us, very motivating
@Matthew_Spooner no slacking, weāre all watching, willing, and waiting for you to finish
I also have a friend that when I see him, I check my wallet is still there.
Great to be following you - its epic , and your going well . followed you on insta too .
Iām enjoying following Matt on Instagram too.
I have opened instagram for the first time in probably over a year just for this.
Matthewās tracker hasnāt updated for nearly an hour ⦠this is why I donāt dot watch normally, I get way more interested than is healthy
Imagine doing this in the pre GPS era.
I assume people just follow their Garmin, and hope it doesnāt break? A huge logistical effort, just planning and downloading the route using all the little back roads.
Agreed.
When I did OtillO in 2010, that was the first time I encountered being a dot - had no idea people on here (TT Mk1) were following us. It was surprisingly reassuring to know that someone was interested.
I guess the tech has evolved rapidly to take advantage of the ever increasing number of adventurous events
This kind of location/navigation technology is usually driven by military or logistical need. After the first Gulf War, there was huge appetite to develop a decent cargo/asset tracking capability. So things like ācheapā RFID trackers and GPS transponders were developed. Then before you know it, everyone is obviously taking advantage of the developments.
GPS was conceived by the US Military.
CP1? Havenāt you been going for 3 days?
Navigate by the sun?
Ask directions when you hit a border?
Looks like @Sowler and his partner have gone though CP1. Mattās had to get his bottom bracket replaced and heās stuck up a video on insta. Looking remarkably fresh and going well.
Yes, itās a very interesting and thorough video.
Heās not that far behind the largeish front pack, although itās hard to gauge terrain and distance very accurately. Certainly thereās long enough left to catch them.
Easy day today. Late start, then fun with bottom bracket, I stopped at 1945 lovely and cheap hotel about 10k from Bolzano. Plan for a good night sleep then aim for a big day tomorrow to get to cp2 very late
Looking like 350k and 2500m tomorrow, recon 15 hours
Classic TT phraseology there
The ābattleā between the leading two must mean sleep is at a premium!
