Trans Continental Race 27th July 2025

In his morning video he says he set off at 6 so CP2 at about 10-11 tonight. Still enough for a decent night’s sleep before turning south

John has just gone past where Matt stayed last night so not too far behind

I wonder if Matt is using pre-planned accommodation stops. Mainly because speculative vacancies must be harder this time of year.

Has he found his pair?

Looking at his insta I think they were always together. Was just a map/tracker issue.

Those front two are on a whole different stratosphere though aren’t they!

He said in this mornings video that he was around 6 hours behind his planned schedule, but wasn’t worried at all about that. So on that basis, I’m guessing the accommodation stops aren’t planned?

I would assume he’ll stay the night at CP2, as he said CP1 had a dorm, and after a ~15 hour day it would seem crazy to carry on.

Interesting to see a few have taken a southerly route to CP2 via the ‘plains’ of Italy. Looks a bit of a diversion though.

It’s hard to comprehend how far the front guys have ridden in such a short space of time. When you zoom out and look at the map it is crazy :scream:

No pre planned hotels, firstly against the rules, but also I wouldn’t want to stop early if feeling great, or slug on when feeling lousy

I am making my lunch stop. 210km done so far, another 140-150 to CP2

I assume as you’re travelling light, no sleeping under the stars though? To get a decent sleep you’d need to take some bulky kit.

I am carrying decent bivy kit: sleeping mat, silk liner and bivy bag. Not warm enough in mountains but good option in the Balkan’s and greece

Weight of bivy kit is around 800g

Loving the dot watching and the insta updates @Matthew_Spooner & @Sowler

Looks like the parcours after cp2 is challenging to say the least

A comment by one guy that he got to rent a tent & wool blankets in CH, for the price of a Hotel room in other countries. Beautiful country, but so f*g expensive.

You think the people doing this are poor?

Three/four weeks off family/work to ride your bike?

:joy::joy::joy:

Matt nearly at CP2. Looks like this first bit of the parcours is fairly flat, and the real up & down elements are after the CP. I’d definitely want to do those bits in daylight!

I honestly can’t believe how those front two are doing what they are.

Got to CP2 at midnight. Another big day on the bike 380k and 3500m. Looks like a only lost 2 places despite easy day after CP1

I was wondering, from his strava, why Matt was going north after the Triglavs instead of heading SE. Then I realised that’s Parcours 2!

Looks like John stopped not too far behind.

Leading 2 have now properly split for the first time. Big old gap now.

Matthew has left CP2, c7am our time, but not sure of the time zone in Slovenia.

Interesting to see a few of the names he was close to yesterday pm must have left somewhat earlier and had less sleep.
No102 looks to be half way up a mountain just ahead of him but assume it’s a tracker error

John should be at CP2 sometime this afternoon

Of course not; this is Ironman squared in many respects.
