Triverest - Triathlon over the elevation of Everest

Paging Sean Conway

I assume James Lawrence will be uninterested, as he won’t be able to make up his own rules.

That sounds truly, truly miserable.

Arthur Puckrin used to tell me about the ones he did, sounded utterly miserable!

And sleep deprived hallucinations :joy:

Talking of crazy events…how about 200 miles in a tunnel.

We watched this over the weekend:

76kms worth of chlorine would be great. 20 x 1 IM distance at a time?

Jesus!

Absolute insanity!

At some point, does it become about who can afford the most time off work?

That was my thinking but I didn’t post for fear of being too negative  Our hypothetical bloke/lass has a month off work and a family pass to do something epic… so they do laps. I’d be off to cycle the TdF route, hike Everest base camp, cycle to Svalbard, kayak St Kilda, ski the Haute Route, bike Trans Alp or the Trans Alpine run, bike the PCT, or anything that’s frankly just, well, a tad interesting.

done that. next!

but I agree - the thought of doing that double deca is not my idea of fun - too many other interesting challenges to keep the mind and body active

A Double Decker is chocolate bar or a bus, it is not and should never be an athletic endeavour

On the flip side, I really like laps, I am surprised as the next man, but these days I would rather run 24 hours around a 400m track than a 100mile trail ultra.

Reasons:

  1. Cant get lost
  2. A lot less likely to trip (though my mate managed to in November :man_shrugging: )
  3. Food/water is always available
  4. Can totally switch off, which is related to 1 and 2.

Not that I have any interest in running in a dark tunnel (see point 2)

If anyone fancies a somewhat shorter run through a dark tunnel, the Bath two tunnels half marathon is a really good event. On a lovely course, and far less nuts.

Think the longest tunnel is just over a mile. All those people running through it at the same time feels very surreal.

There’s no way it’s as well lit as this picture suggests!

Yeah that’s the one I meant, for some reason I though it was Bristol to Bath and a marathon. :man_shrugging:

It’s the same tunnel. You just do it once instead.

I don’t mind laps, like E24 and the marathon at Goodwood but very small loops would do my head in a bit and longer than 24hrs would be a stretch.

I’d still like a crack at a Backyard though.
