TT Smackdown 2025

Guess I am doing it or at least supporting, just booked accommodation.

Almost booked Riverside in Cirencester £172 for Sat and Sunday night

But went with Cricklade again in the end, although a different hotel.

There is..

The White Hart (where we stayed last year)
The Bear (good reviews but looks a bit snuggle)
The Vale Hotel
The Red Lion :lion: (I think)

I once stayed at Travelodge Swindon West.
B&Q and Lidl/Aldi opposite.

Absolutely fine and £39 :+1::white_check_mark:

For anyone still considering this, worth noting that their other event - the 113 - is this weekend, and the Classic usually sells out shortly after the 113. Presumably lots of people happy or sad with their first efforts and want another go.

I was hoping ton oin you for this but my daughter is travelling the day after. Me travelling back late Sunday won’t be appreciated. Need another half to do, Steelman might be the best option.

I think there was still places a few days ago but expect it to fill before long.

Do I not like that :face_with_symbols_on_mouth:

For context, I’ve been swimming in a shorty wetsuit for several weeks now. But the temperature stubbornly refuses to get above 18C. Yesterday’s rain probably didn’t help.

are you doing the race in July @buzz ?

I’m sure training on the course is cheating. Not to mention swimming

I’m entered. Shoulder still hurts but I should make 1900m ok. Holding a TT position after might not be fun, must try riding the TT outside sometime. Hip, hamstring hurts, so running is minimal at best.

Currently thinking it will just be a day out.

If I was going to play mind games, I might mention that the crayfish are getting pretty big this year, and the shallow section out the back you can graze their backs with your hands.

Fruity is currently emailing about a duathlon option :joy:

That shallow section…am I remembering correctly that a volunteer was shouting at us - in an angry way - when we were walking it during our last smackdown? :joy:

Yes. It’s not that shallow this year (yet). But it is still a bit of a shock when you go from barely seeing the gravelly bottom ~10ft down to green blooms barely 2ft below the surface with little critters flicking about. That section stinks too.

Clear enough to see…

what in the name of all things holy is that :open_mouth:

even the Dorset Echo is at it today

In the local paper there’s a leisure section, a nature section, and oh yes, a sharks section

The f’k is that?!!….

it’s a Flying Gurnard - not a shark at all. The pectoral fins can splay out so they look like wings. Relative of the Red Gurnard which are caught often for food - very tasty fish and often thought of as a poor man’s Red Mullet.
