TT Smackdown 2025

Yeah - they’re “aren’t bad”
But that’s not an endorsement, is it?

A cluster fuck :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

I’m always up for beers before and/or after. But not on my bike thou’ eh!

@gingerbongo - Seeing as you’ve a disc, the offer of a deep front and own this bike, I’m expecting you to be in this position for the Cotswold Classic :+1:t3:

Actual image of me on my bike…

(can that fella run faster than 6.00/km after that though!?)

WTAF :exploding_head::joy:
I like how he’s created an actual sail with his body to slow himself down. Amazing.
His legs must kill.

That bike is at least a size too large for him!
Did he not read the entire library of Slowtwitch Bike Fit before deciding on his purchase?

Yeah, but he’s got an aero lid and a disc. Sooooo, gainzz innit.

If i’m feeling brave tomorrow i’ll kit up and film the latest changes to my position as i’ll be on my own at home so won’t feel like (as much of) a tw@. Nothing like a midweek slaughtering from TT!

Get the garden mown.
Sort your weeds out.
Shave your legs.
Matching kit.
Clean shoes.
Etc etc :joy:

As above

Jaysus man.
I had the Jif out scrubbing my white shoes before Sunday’s club run.
Degreased the cassette and waxed the chain.
Silicone spray on the bike.
Full matching kit.

You cannot let your standards slip.
If you can’t ride, then you may as well look good doing it :joy:

That seat height hurts just thinking about it. Look how much he’s pointing his toes and his leg is still nearly straight. I dare you to post that on ST and ask for feedback

Start with no standards my friend, and there’s no slipping to be had!

I ain’t got time for that nonsense. Bike is hung up in the shed with a flat tyre, covered in mud. Will probs ly be there until Sat when I need to fix it for my Sunday ride as well! :joy:

Unless I need it to get to the train tmw for my leaving lunch. That’s a thought actually.

Bit of advice please- what sort of power to aim for on the bike at Cotswold? I haven’t raced a middle distance for 10+ years and haven’t really raced to power ever.

What Zwift reckons my FTP is based on 95% of 20 mins: 285W
Best ever 1 hour power on Zwift: 265W
Best ever IRL power in a sprint tri: 257W
Best ever IRL power on a nearby 60km route: 245W

No flat roads round here so IRL testing is a bit difficult, the NP is usually about 10W higher than the AP.

Planning on a brick tomorrow maybe 60km/12 km - I’m thinking aim for 235W. Does that seem too high? Too low???

deffo go for about 255 i’d say.

(see you on the run)

Haha, yes, at a standstill and puking in a hedge :grinning:

that’s the one!

I rode (for the first 80km, pre getting lost):

218 AP and 223 NP. Guess that my ftp was around 250-260 or so. TP reckons my IF was about 0.83, but can’t remember whether i had updated it or not. Maybe i overbiked a tad, though i tested it in training and it was fine.

So 235 is probably about right, maybe even a bit more. But i’m no power expert and will defer to those with better knowledge than I.

Zwift reckons your FTP is 285W, but you’ve only done 257W for a sprint tri?
That doesn’t seem correct to me!

My FTP was 280W when I did 113 back in 2019.
Or 3.5W/kg.
I’d done every long ride on the TT bike at 220-230W leading up to it. So knew what the effort felt like.

Prior to that, I’d rode an hour at 267W.
And a “sprint” tri (hilly 28km!) at 270W in 54mins.
I rode a sprint tri last year at 276W for 31mins (20km)
FTP was 290W for that, so I tried to ride at 0.95IF but failed. VI was 1.01 As it was pan flat :joy:
I’m good at riding with a VI of 1.01 :+1:t3:

Come race day, my PM battery died, so I don’t actually know what I rode at. But it felt nice and easy. Probably too easy. But I’d not done a half Ironman thing in about eight years. So I erred on the side of caution.

Strava estimated it at 238W, but I’m quite aero (see profile pic) so I reckon it was more like 225W - or 0.80IF.
HR average was 148bpm, my RHR was 48bpm and HRmax was 193bpm at the time.

A couple of weeks before race day I swam 1.9km in the pool at race pace, did 60km on the bike at 230W, then a 10km run off (at 4:05/km, which was a bit too “spicy” - but showed me that 230W was a piece of piss)
Week before that I rode 2hrs at 230W.
Week before that I rode 3.5hrs at 228W.
Week before that I rode 2.5hrs at 212W.
Week before that I did a 12.5TT at 290W, a 2hr ride at 200W and a 25TT at 267W.
Week before that 2.5hrs at 225W.

Just gotta dial in that power until you know what it’s like.

For Staffs I’ll be spanking that bike seeing as my run is diabolical at the minute.

Does that help at all?

I also ran a 1:29 at the 113, after falling over and having a 500ml water and one gel all race :man_facepalming:t4:

(I dropped my BTA bottle, aero bottle and saddlebag during the race due to the awful road surfaces)

Don’t look at my numbers

I think you should all go way over or under power - none of this namby pamby in the middle nonsense.
