I’ll say exactly the same. Actually, no, 5.30, 45/2.45/1.50
It’s going to be a DNS for me I’m afraid.
I could pretend the reason is lack of training, dah di dah di dah (but it would be true ) however I’m moving house this weekend! Divorce would be expensive at my age even though the kids are grown up and I’m on a pension.
@mw22 I note you have awarded yourself a mere 2 stars in the sandbagging column
Hmm
I think we need a reference table of excuses, independently ranked for robustness. For example:
1 star: fracture or dislocation, with x-ray evidence
2 star: infectious disease (covid 19, campylobacter) with proof of test and not just a pen line on the LFT
3 star: alleged calf strains and other soft tissue ailments, with absence of recent Strava runs at 1h30 pace or massive Zwift fests.
4 star: “work has been full on”, “I have been waking up at 4am”, “the cat’s fault” etc
5 star: 2 or more of the above claimed, without corroborating evidence.
I can’t even sit at a desk without being in pain. If I get 5:15 I’ll be pretty happy!!!
Like this;
Add your own excuses…
Yeah the COVID years have crippled me there. As last years IM confirmed.
I’m looking forward to 2 hours 40 minutes of heckling on Sunday!
Saturday evening is going to be SO MUCH WORSE>
And he’s got about 300w on the bike too.
In 2019!
Can we get a 2022 update of that table please?
For me:
Swim 400m: 6:01 in February but think there was an element of draft benefit. 6:17 from last November.
Bike 20min power: 259w taken from 10 mile TT
Run 5km: 18:21
Just to show how woeful my endurance is!

No excuses for me, Ive just not done enough training and…
- I like beer. A lot.
- Butter and cheese are my two main food groups
- Salt makes everything palatable

just done my race week brick.
Absolute shambles.
A road was “closed”, cars going down, loose chippings, guy comes toward us “a cyclist has come off and broke his arm down there, turn round”
Oh. Great. An extra 2km at 26kmh
1hr 15mins 44km
255W NP
35kmh (would’ve been 38 without this bit, as I’d planned a sneaky route to take advantage of the wind )
145bpm
Brick run
2km 4:15/km
As ever, my pacing was AMAZING, with a 4:24 opening salvo, so I had to make it up on the return leg with a 4:07
That’ll be fun on Sunday
Oh. And it’s 16° and I was MELTING
EDIT: Bike was “only” 79TSS, so probably will aim for 85% on Sunday
My run is gonna be horrific anyway, so may as well
Well thats depressing - on a positive I was actually ahead of that IM time last year!!
Using my outdoor 25TT time - so about as accurate as I can get. Only done one 5km effort in 19 months. Meh.
They’re not excuses if they’re true. Then they’re reasons!
Uh. Did anyone else call this out already?
This thread has a lot of unmined gold in it.
