BC won’t claim against another BC member, they said that to me.
You need to go on an acronym detox retreat. You and all swim coaches.
I can see why they might think that is appropriate, but imagine that for any other insurance.
Real insurance companies just sort it out internally and pay out.
I’m not sure where the divide is between insurance & legal cover, BC’s solicitors won’t seek to make a claim against another BC member.
The cover being discussed is not insurance for damage/loss, it’s the legal cover for you to determine if you have had a loss from a 3rd party (whether covered by insurance or not), your home insurance legal cover would cover this in the same way if it’s included.
So what they won’t do, is pay for the legal services for you to bring a case against another member, they will defend you from a case brought against you. The conflict of interest alone seems to make this reasonable to me?
Some home policies also include Personal Liability cover, for if a legal claim is brought against you.
Which is why I’m not super impressed about having to join CTC/BC for the same cover ![]()
The legal wrangle I got into in Oz had the guy relying on his home legal cover. Because they are clueless non specialist, he lost and my counter sue was successful.
That’s why I like having it.
BTF day licences going up to £12.00 i believe…
And with that, goes triathlon ![]()
my thoughts exactly…
Might kill off small events but not much on the cost of an Ironman?
Wonder if membership will follow next year.
Certainly not going to help grass roots.
Ironman is dead.
I’m not paying more than £45 to do a sprint, which leaves only one race that I know of (Matlock August Bank Holiday)
£60 for a sprint is insane. £1 per minute (ish)
£100 for an Oly is also questionable.
£150 for a middle is acceptable, £300 for a full.
I wouldn’t pay any more than that now.
I think you’re overestimating your current fitness ![]()

Sorry
ATW near me put on reasonable races but even they’re more than that for a Sprint. Problem is the costs don’t scale with the length of the race.
e.g. Sprint £70 / Oly £85
Someone asked me if I wanted to join them at Blenheim. No way for whatever they’re asking nowadays.
As that article states, there’s a lot of costs involved and we really need the small events to continue.
I have supported 2 local events this year and helped at another. I like seeing people challenge themselves at whatever distance ![]()
Been steadily going up, think mine was £100 this year. I only have it because of club coaching, and needing dbs and insurance. I could probably get away with UK Coaching insurance for everything (which i have for S&C) and also save about 85 quid SE membership for my swim coaching insurance (although again i think i am forced to be a member for dbs reasons)
Oh i also pay for dbs, and pay for safeguarding training (with each ngb separately now like dbs).
I only want to help kids be fit and healthy and enjoy sport
Swim England London Winter Regionals is £14 per event, 50free in 25seconds anyone?
I guess its a bit better for 400IM ![]()
800/1500 are a very reasonable £17 though ![]()
Ha ha ha ![]()

Bala (2/80/20) was £85 the last time I raced there (2012 ish?)
Matlock AC sprint tri is £15.
Helvellyn Tri is £95.
(Or an actual middle by Epic Events is £99)
They’re 2023 prices. And fricking awesome locations ![]()
1485Tri in Market Bosworth used to run some duathlons for a tenner - stopwatches and a clipboard. Absolutely brilliant racing ![]()
EDIT: I understand that costs don’t scale for the length of the race, which is fine, but as a consumer, that’s not what I’m looking at … you’ve got kids; when going for a day out, do you let all the kids choose their own ice pop at £1.85 each? Or go into the CoOp and buy a multipack of six lollies for £3?
Same goes for triathlon ![]()
