What do you mean by motor assist?

Don’t some smart FEC trainers provide a motor assist at the back ‘wheel’ in certain conditions. That’s what I’ve read. Or do they only vary resistance?

Not that I’m aware of. I’d go so far as to say that my trainer (Direto) seems harder to pedal downhill than IRL. I have it set always to 50%.

Having said that, the Direto is the only one I have any experience of.

Any way, I can confidently say that I won’t be bothering you tomorrow. My ‘twin pillars of doom’ are more like ‘matchsticks of mediocrity’ these days

As long as Poet doesn’t keep grating-on like the ZA event we did :joy:

Yeah Id say on a dumb trainer you have an advantage on the downs as we lose resistance, but on the ups it is arguably harder.
Tho - watts are watts - and its the watts that define speed. So ultimately comes down to the rider.
Smart trainers can go on a level playing field and set trainer difficulty to 0 - and that would flatten the feel of the course out -but speed would still be relative to watts/gradient.

Yes, they do - but they make it HARDER to put out the watts, just like real life as you’re flying down a hill, so you’d gain an advantage on the descents compared to those folk.

I don’t think the Direto has a motor, the Neo and Kickr do I believe.

Personally I stick with the venge/disk combo for almost all racing now, unless there is a big kom finish or they are close together like NY.
If you’re expecting a tight finish then itll give you that little bit more in terms of momentum on flats and downhills in particular.
Also don’t forget if you’re on a Tron, your rider’s head wont pop up to let you know you’re in full on draft mode.

Cheers Daz. I hadn’t realised that rider’s heads pop up at all. I do lots of stuff on the TT bike. I’m going to get slaughtered tomorrow night as I never press any of the powers ups.

Did the 3R iTT race, hard going and was hanging on at the end. Finished 6/10 in the cat but not sure how many were A+, ZP is on it’s Tuesday night hiatus because of the live races.

Wasn’t very far off 4th though and with a K to go was neck and neck with 5th but he pulled away with a late burst.

Absolute jokes!!!
I’m serious.

It’s all about getting outside and doing it in all weathers and abandoning your family over Christmas.

As soon as my progeny go back to their mother, I’m abandoning my wife🙈

I’m sure she’ll be fine at home with her oats

Your legs will be shot for that NYD 10km!!

If we lived in the Southern Hemisphere it would be a breeze. 60 odd km a day isn’t it? Could do that easily on the turbo each day without shitting on everyone’s Christmas!!

I wouldn’t exactly say a breeze. It would be fuck off scorchio hot, humid as all get out and you’re dealing with Xmas exodus CUBs and LOMBARDs drunk in their v8s.

Not if you’re in Dunedin. It’s always bloody cold and grey down there! :joy:

Yeah, 62.5km per day.
So 2hrs 15mins in full winter garb, plus a change and shower and bike wash and you’re looking at three hours - so, if you’re organised, you can be back home and ready for 10am :+1:t3:

@gingerbongo @Jorgan - No IRL ride for me today :sob::triumph::rage:
I’m not racing, but aiming to do the Quatch Quest route at 1115 - 1315, with ZA WO#7 running for the first part, then I’ll load up WO#8 if it lets me?
Otherwise, I’ll just slog up ADZ at 2.5W/kg :+1:t3:

I can’t get on until 12.15 at the earliest today.

Not too fussed on racing, but if there are a few here, I’ll probs jump in. Otherwise I may just go for an easy run outside.

There’s a Garmin ride at 11.15, that one?
