Virtual Zwift Rides

That’s a huge increase!!!
I’ve not had an email about it yet.

My DD was today and still £13 so probably next month.

They could have increased by £1 or £0.50 a year, and got to the same £17 with far less grief than they’ll get for this single leap……

(Would they also be better increasing price in the NH winter, when zwift is essential, rather than early summer when outside riding is viable unless you’re in the Uk….)

Yikes - this is making me consider other platforms again

It’s still good value IMHO, <£5 a week

As soon as I saw it I switched to an annual subscription (which I’d been meaning to do anyway) to see if I could lock in the old price. Nope, just got the email saying it’s going up :joy:

Yeah - nah, £180 per year…I’ll be riding outdoors for the next few months anyway.

Going to try out MyWhoosh which is still free.

I paid for annual back in December so have until then to decide. I’m using zwift 2-3 times a week but not racing or doing the group rides I used to do because of long term injury. I tried indievelo a few months ago and that was pretty good - and based on the improvements they announce every week in an email update it’s probably getting real good now. Was free last time I checked but they will charge at some point.

There’s no iPad version though is there?

Good point, I’m not sure what platform(s) it runs on.

Got the email earlier. Its a big jump. Not rising prices year on year has bitten them and this will probably see a few people cancel.

They’d have been better off having a rise in 2020/2021, especially as that was the peak of indoor training and racing.

TBF they do develop the software quite a lot, there’s a few frustrations but it’s pretty decent.

Typical, it goes up 6th June, I think my DD is 7th so probably one of the first people, assuming it wasn’t a bank holiday transaction today.

Hey ho, best get in the garage and use it :joy:

Zwift seems to make it hard for itself at times.
Everyone talking about %, increase which is big. But the actually monthly cost, esp compared to other stuff isn’t to bad if you look at into isolation.

Lakes now £7+ for a swim. Which even on my best day is £7/hour.
Paying £40 a month for kids gym. 2-3 times a week. At the very best £6/hour.

I’m doing 10+ hours a week in winter, summer that’ll obviously take a hit. But that’s 45p/hour.
Wife is probably half that.

I pi55 away money on other stuff that isn’t used anywhere near as much as zwift.

Yeah, it’s nearly £5 for a coffee in some bigger chains!

This looks fun

Could also be good

That’s me done for summer at least, I was barely using it anyway. I have the Elite app if I really want to know my power but with a tv and wifi in the garage, I’ll just spin a bit and watch something on streaming.

Whilst I fully agree with the idea of cost per use and paying for things that bring pleasure, it’s not quite the same

If I don’t pay to enter the lake I can’t OW swim.
Whereas I’m already providing the trainer and the bike, that I could achieve 99% the experience with, especially with music or TV on.

It’s more like paying extra to have buoys to mark out a course round the lake to make it more interesting.

Yeah fair point.

I’m probably invested more than most. I’m in a team, which I’ve found real (virtual) friends with (far more than any real club).

The racing motivates me immensely (yes it could be much improved with removing cheats, better formats, better categories etc).

The gamification does for some stupid reason engage me.

I still remember when COVID started and why I picked up zwift again with sufferfest just boring me.
I actually look forward to the winter season now… And it’s arguably the only time I’ll race.

Edit. I f##king hate it when theres no buoys in the lake :joy:

If you just do workouts, there are a few apps out there which manage the ERG.
